Quick and dirty video I made demonstrating the traditional coup de savoyard method of opening an Opinel: hold it by the virobloc, knock the corner of the handle against a hard surface, voila. :D

Great video on a classic trick! I typically only have to use that method with "fresh" Opinels, but it's quite useful until they break in. I modified my main Opinel (No.8 Carbon) with an "easy open" notch that lets me just pinch the blade open and it works quite nicely. :)

The only time I ever need to do this is after I refinish a handle...It seems I never fail to get a little poly in the joint.

The #10 I use the most can be opened, locked, unlocked and closed all one handed, they just need breaking in and they become the smoothest friction folder you've got.

Thanks for posting for thoses who don't "know" opinels yet.
