opening and closing

Does anyone have a specific knife or a design aspect used in multiple folders that makes it hard to open and close? I've read in many posts of how some people have trouble with some locks or opening devices. Some of it seems to just be a negative initial reaction to that particular knife. My 1st one-hander was a Delica, and whenever I handled a thumbstud, it seemed vastly inferior. After 20+ knives using studs and discs, and having only a Gunting and BM Eclipse as my other examples of the round hole, I see little difference. As for closing, I have lockbacks, linerlocks, framelocks, compression, and axis. I close them all the same way-disengage the lock with my thumb and push on the blade spine with my index finger. After playing with any knife for a few minutes, I find I can open and close in a forward and reverse grip using almost identical motions. Does anyone have genuine issues with certain designs, or maybe just a general dislike for the knife barring a little extra effort to adjust to the particulars of the tool?

Wow it is difficult to search for this, but if i have to name some:
I have fat fingers,
and so i have problems with my Spy Shabaria,
where the hole is partly hidden by the frame,
and with my CRKT Mirage Z Warncliff,
where the stud is to perfect fitet into the cutout on the scales.
and at my SIFU i changed the studs because the originally one
hurt my finger with every use.

Anyway i found out i got used to all of the knives when wearing one some days,
my main problem is switching knives every day and getting perfect with all of them.

I think it has a lot to do with the location/size of the thumb hole or stud and how it fits with your hand. I have both kinds and while most work ok, on some the hole or stud is too close to the hand end of the blade.

Of the two, I prefer a thumb stud.

But I carry mostly pocketknives with nail marks. The same conditions apply to those. In some the mark is located wrong, too small, not deep enough, covered by other blades, or the backspring of the blade is so strong you nearly rip your thumbnail off opening the blade.

Also, a word to the wise, I do not think it is a good idea to allow a folding knife blade to snap closed. In some cases this can cause the cutting edge of the blade to strike the backspring dulling it. Also, this practice exerts unnecessary stress on the whole knife. My recommendation is to close a folding knife blade slowly and carefully - probably safer too.

While i've never really had "problems" with any of my knives - i've never cared for lockbacks due to the difficulty of a one-handed closing with them.

I'm really more of a liner-lock guy, but i'll admit i've never experienced a frame lock or AXIS lock, so my preference may change.
