Opening Axis Locks

I was playing with my new Benchmade 806D2 and discovered I can open it with a very quick, sharp and short push-pull motion. Specifically I hold the knife firmly with my fingers and thumb on the scales an out of the blades path. (Note: I do not pull the axis lock back or touch it at all.) Then I push the bottom (closed blade side) of the knife away quickly and then stop. This is a really short quick motion--you're using the blades own intertia to overcome the friction from the axis lock. The blade snaps open.

Has anyone else tried this?

Like I said, I was just checking out a new toy. As a practical matter I'll probably use the thumb hole, but the "push" seemed like a neat trick and I couldn't find anything with a search.

Yep, try hold it with tip up in closed position with fingertips, and do a quick stabbing motion downward.

Old news, this method works with almost all liner locks and a few lockbacks that the blade is heavy enough for it's inertia to overcome the backspring.

Try pinchincing the blade between your fingers and snapping your wrist down, works great with Spydie Holes, but be careful, cause if you slip or lose your grip the knife may fly out of your hand and at the very least hit the floor , and at the very worst stick into your foot or break a blade.

Isn't a one hand opener anyway?

If you do the same thing but hold the axis lock back, you can get the blade to come out a lot easier, probably saving some wear and tear on your folder. The axis lock is a wonderful thing.

Forgive me, this is the first non-SAK folder I've bought since the early '80s. I missed the liner lock boat altogether. I've never had a lockback you could do that with and I assumed the pressure of a liner or integral lock against the blade would prevent you from doing that.

I used to do something like that to open the BuckLite I carried in the Army. Pinch firmly over the fingernail groove and flick.

yes ;)

The same trick works on my SOG Pentagon Elite II. SOG's Arc lock and BM's axis are very similar.
