Opening Cuda Maxx

That's what the integral guard, aka "ears" are for.
I have a Cuda and a Darrel Ralph, the flipper is really the best way to open them.

If you want to avoid any appearance of flipping you can start it with a gentle push on the flipper to get the thumb stud clear of the frame, then rotate it the rest of the way with the thumb stud. Some people are able to open it with just the thumb stud, but the studs are inset far enough to make that difficult. They were designed as blade stops and not thumb studs.

You can also perform a conventional two-handed opening by simply grasping the blade and pulling it out.

But everyone I know, myself included, uses the flipper and a little wrist action 99% of the time.

I agree that opening is initiated by pushing the guard followed by a slight flick of the wrist. Opening with the blade stops (what look like thumb studs) is extremely awkward. IIRC, it says "FLIK IT" on the blade.

I can open it with just the thumb stud.......that's because I'm a lefty and the thumb stud I use has enough texture to keep my thumb
on it while rotating the blade open.

It's easy enough to reverse.....with a #8 Torx driver. ;)

You can also open it by useing the non-flipping ear like "half a hole". It seems to work well for me. But of course, flipping is more fun and impressive.

I generally open mine as Dr. Thor does, use the flipper as a thumber. No fuss, no muss.

This is really the only good way I've found to slow open the Maxx. I like it because it affords a decent amount of control with, as Dirk puts it,
"No muss, no fuss".

But it sure is fun to flick that big ol' blade open! :D

Those aren't thumbstuds, they are blade stops. The Max is designed to be flipped open with the "ears". The problem is that sometimes the pivot pin is a little too tight from the factory. Adjust it and it should open like a dream.

The other point of "flicking", other than scaring the Hell out of the hoplophobes, is that it seats the framelock better. Try it with the 7" version if you really want to see people jump!
