I'm really tempted by the Northfield version of this knife and will grab one if it pops up on the exchange. I have read all I can find on them and some people report they're nailbreakers. If I get the Northfield version with the long pull, is it easier to open? Is the coping blade also difficult to open? Pictures and reviews are always welcome!

I had Northfield #79 and liked it alot. The pull on the spear main is pretty stout. From what I've heard from others on here they also seem to state the same. IIRC most average 7.0 - 8.0 or so on a 1 to 10 scale if that helps any. I don't recall the coping blade to be heavy though. It was average.

It's on the harder side, but not as hard as the #78 American Jack that you've probably heard about.

I would say its heavy but not too heavy. Like arizonaranchman said, probably around 7-8ish. Mine is a tad heavy but smooth unlike my #73 that I stretched the spring a bit on and is really not very smooth like it has some fouling in it that won't come out. The #79 really is one of my top favorites. I just feel fancy when I carry this knife.

Thanks ranchman, GEC really does a great job on their bone. I really like the blood red bone as well.

I've got a Blackwood version en route, been hunting for one for ages. I'm a fan of single-spring knives, so I'll let you know when it arrives.
