So i just had a intresting experience, i oiled my opinel and spilt abit down the handle, though ahh yeah ill chuck it in the microwave to try and counter the soaking in the handle, about 15 seconds into the cycle, boom! opinel burst into flames, i quickly stopped the microwave and took it out to inspect the damage, slight blackening in the groove but thats it and better yet! It made it perfect, its looser then it was ( the way i like it ) and the locking ring is easier to move! Awesome! :D

lol... lucky your microwave still works... weren't you ever told never to put tin foil or silverware in the microwave :D

Something you made up yourself mate? Maybe some kind of " in joke "?

You guys are funny, if you think metal in a microwave is extreme, you obviously haven't lived! Lighten up fellas!

Dudes, look inside your microwave, there's plenty of metal in there.

You just don't want to introduce additional metal which will reflect the microwaves and cause heat-ups. This might result in a fire ... as happened with the OP.

It depends on the shape of the metal. Reflected microwaves are one thing; generally it'll kill the magnetron tube and break your oven. Electrical arcs from pointed metal creating plasma are another hazard.

Arson, cocaine, and anal sex are extreme. Metal in the microwave is something else entirely. Good luck to you, buddy. :p

(Although, on another note, I'm genuinely happy for you that your Opinel is improved. Seriously, those are some of the greatest knives for the dollar that you can get, and it speaks positively of your tastes. Even if the rest of this thread makes us all worry about your well-being.)

if you want a little more fun hard boil a couple of eggs in the microwave, just pop them in there for about 3 min.
