I have the worst of luck with opinels. With a locking #7, I forgot to lock it before using the spine to strike a fire steel. Today, my #5 got dull, so I decided to stop it on some leather. The leather gripped and it closed HARD on my index finger. Glad it went in at an angle since I didn't wanna see my own bones

The belly had gone dull. The straight had not and THAT bit me. (I can't control the blade tension on my #5 and there isn't a lock, so I'm gonna replace it with a 6 or a 7)

many people will cry to hear me say that if the wood is soaked in water, it will expand and hold the blade tighter. When I lived in New Orleans, it was so humid that every couple of days my #8 wouldn't open. I used to put it in my toaster oven to dry the wood out.
