Opinel #6 LOOSE lock ring?

So my little #6 went through the washer and dryer (DOH!) and now the locking ring is loose. Go figure, I would've thought that with all the water and heat, it would have swelled up and gotten stiff or sticky. Anyway, it still locks ok, but it actually rattles now when it it's in my pocket which drives me nuts.

I tried clamping down on it with pliers to no avail. Should I try popping it off and squeezing it a bit while it's off the knife and then putting it back on? Any other suggestions?

I really like this little knife, but now the rattling just drives me nuts!:rolleyes:
 
The ring was stretched as the wood swelled in the washer, and the wood contracted in the dryer, leaving it loose. Your suggested fix should work fine.
