so ive been getting into opinels and i love the all wood handles i just dont like how the carbon blades dont have much choice in woods. im wondering if you can change out a stainless blade for a carbon one. i have a olive wood No.6 stainless that i would just love more if it was carbon. has anyone done this and if so, how did you do it? pictures encouraged!

If I remember correctly, Opinel found that many of the fancier woods caused corrosion in the carbon steel blades, so they limit those woods to stainless.

I have always wanted to try and swap the blade and ring from an opinel to a piece of stag, I imagine you would need a small lathe to do it correctly. I have the opinel and plenty of stag just don't have the means to do it.

Give it a shot with a Dremel and some files. Worst thing that could happen is you learn a better way to do it!

They could do Walnut, Maple, and Cherry with a Carbone blade. (Do they offer a cherry wood handle?) with no threat of the wood corroding the steel. Those three woods have been used for gunstocks since the days of black powder and before stainless steel was invented.
