Do I need any extra care in preventing the blade on my Opinel No. 9 from corrosion? Right now, I'm just wiping it down after each use with a dry paper towel and then with a Hoppe's silicone cloth.

The silicone cloth is over the top IMO. Just cleaning and wiping the blade dry is what ive been doing and is enough. If anything, a thin coat of oil will help it keep from rusting. Remember, carbon steel wont rust with water on contact, it takes a decent amount of time.

I leave a carbon steel #8 in my backpack as a "food knife" as well as something that I could give away if anyone ever REALLY needed a knife. It gets damp from rain, riding through puddles, etc, and it's held up fine so far.

Don't put it away soaked, and try to let a natural patina build up because that way you won't rust (cut some acidic foods with it and then leave it for a couple minutes).

I think that once you've got a patina on there, it's more a matter of just keeping it dry(ish).

I ate a big steak with a 'honey soy' marinade and the blade on my #7 was black afterwards. Was razor sharp beforehand and about as useful as a butter knife afterwards.
Im up for the stainless model now.
