Above are a few pictures I took of my opinel no.7's current state. I cut and ground the blade down to a wharncliffe/sheepsfoot blade. I chose this because to be honest when it comes to EDC I never have a use for a blade when it comes to piercing or poking holes in things. 99.99% of the time when a knife is needed it's to cut something. Also I absolutely love what noes and sheepsfoot blades 😆.

Next I rounded off the butt end of the knife. I found it uncomfortable pressing against my palm whenever I held it tightly. Add two choils to the top end of the knife and a little sanding to slim the overall profile down and that's about it for what I did today.

My plan for tomorrow is to stain the handle and add a fixed clip on the side. And some screw head brass thumb studs if I can manage it without screwing up the entire blade haha. Thanks for taking a look at it.

Sounds good, but pics not showing for me.

Showler, I love that folks do so many different things to their Opi's. But for the sake of accuracy, what you did to that one is to add finger grooves, not Choils. A choil is a notch in the blade, normally as a place to stop or start a sharpening pass from. Two choils would simply look bad, and not serve any purpose. I am curious how much did you shorten that blade to do your sheepsfoot. Are you planning on staining yours? I have been having some trouble recently getting a decent stain job on an Opi I did a little modding to.
Good going, and keep us posted.

What did you use to grind the blade to reshape it? Looks nice. How did you go about it?

Thanks for the correction Fish I kinda use the word choil as a synonym for any groove really. I shortened the overall blade by half its original length.

I stained it today or rather I sanded it to a very fine and smooth surface and then I oiled it up. It gives the beach wood its original color but I think that it's a bit of a warmer tone overall. And as a bonus the oil protects against scratches and water so hopefully it can protect my opinel from that pesky swelling problem people complain about so much. (Although I shouldn't have that issue. The coast of California isn't humid or muggy in any way)

Showler, I actually thought about just oiling one of mine up, I like Watco Danish oil, and if not after a color I think that would probably work well. Your wharncliff style has me thinking about doing one in that style.

Great job on the Opinel (I carry mine often), looks very detailed. I have a bunch of them so maybe I will make one a donor for a project like that.

I like the blade work you did, as most of what I use my #6 on is opening packages and cutting cardboard. The blade style you did is ideal for that type of work. I occasionally use mine in a restaurant to cut something when a knife is not supplied. ( mainly Chinese restaurants ) I need to get my wife one, as she is always asking me to let her use mine for the same thing. The Opies are the only knives that I now carry for an EDC. I have a collection of other types of knives, but none of them can replace my Opinel for what I need a knife for in my "Golden Years". Not sure why they call it that, as I have no gold or excess funds available! :sorrow:

Have a Blessed Day!
