opinel outdoor

Blade thicknesses are different. The 'Outdoor' model's blade is much thicker, at ~2.5mm, than the standard blades at almost a full mm thinner (measured mine at ~1.6mm). So, without some bushings or washers of some kind, the old blade fitted into the new handle would likely be a sloppy fit (assuming other aspects haven't changed also; it might not work at all). But, if you give it a go and find a way to make it work, don't be shy about posting it here. :)

Here's another thread on the 'Opinel Outdoor' knife:

Thanks I knewn some one here would have some knowledge on it Serrations are a deal breaker for me

Grind them off!

A belt sander will be the fastest way to do it, but a diamond sharpening "stone" or even an India stone will do it too, and it wouldn't take very long either.

With almost any bench mounted belt sander - 4x36 is pretty common and about 100.00 at a big box store - and an 80 grit belt, you could make that Opinel (or any other blade) pretty much anything you want it to be.

Practice a bit first with some junk knives, use a light touch and you can have knives that really work for you. You can fix up some knives with broken blades too, and make them useful again.

That belt sander can put great bevels on blades too, getting them ready for the finishing touches of a great sharpening job.

For me, the deal breaker is the plastic handle with a whistle! What's next? An included Klingon decoder code perhaps?

I bet if you dipped the handle in some soapy water you could blow bubbles out of the whistle part. :D

I wouldn't mind seeing them put solid plastic handles (sans whistle) on their standard line for "all weather" use, but this one just does nothing for me. Lose the serrations, blade hole, and whistle, and I'd be on board.

I can live with the hole even the whistle but serrations are a no go A #8 with platic handle and carbon steel blade would be great

The whistle is naff.
Now if they had a choice of interchangeable blades - that would be novel!

I wouldn't mind having a Opinel that sports a synthetic handle of a sort. With that being said I won't have any corny color schemes, serrations, as well as whistles. I'd like the regular blade profile in either their Carbone or Inox. I could see it filling the niche left behind by the Cold Steel Twistmaster.
