Hey guys...I consider myself to be a fan of big, heavy, overbuilt, hard users and tactical knives...but then I saw something strange yet intriguing! A French knife design from 1890 that is basic and simple yet still popular 135 years later! Factor in a budget friendly cost and I came to the conclusion that I had to give Opinel a try! So, I present to you, my two new Opinel No. 9 locking folders! They are both premium wood models made from Oak and Padouk. While I agree, modern knives have sent the Opinel to the back seat, but they are still extremely cool and highly collectible with many sizes and handle materials available to choose from!

Let's keep this thread going with some favorite photos of your prized Opinels as well!

Opinels have been around for over a century for good reason. They have a simple, effective design, are affordable (mainly ), are reliable and they cut.

Unfortunately that site with the S90V Opinels is completely sold out. Cool idea - although with that thin blade, I feel like a tougher steel would be the best fit. Cruwear reblade! Pfft.

The last hard-ish task I did with this No. 9 was essentially a whittling job, shaping the top of a hard ash shovel handle to fit a topper for a walking stick. The edge was totally beat afterwards.

I'd buy a dozen Opinels in Magnacut.
