I saw at a local hardware store a small 2" or so Opinel with a dangling sheath. The sheath really caught my eye as something that I could use for another knife, if only it was bigger. Do Opinels come with this dangling sheath when you buy them? Or is this something specific to this small size? I'd like to get the 4-5 inch version if it comes with the dangling sheath.

I have never seen an Opinel come with a sheath. Great knives though. A real bargain. Just stick it in your pocket.

Hi,
That little dangler sheath only comes with some of the key ring knives. There are belt sheaths available for the No.8 and the slim line. For more info check out the Opinel Museum. or the official site (sorry, I don't have an English link).
Regards,
Greg

The opinel 2000 comemmorative came with a sheath. A very nice one in fact with a loop sewn on that holds a gold tit. coated sharpening steel that matched the rosewood handled knife (that had gold tit. coated blade and turn lock). It also had a small booklet, and came in a nice wooden box with a plexi-glass see through cover (I have a few of these). If your interested in sheaths I would suggest checking out their European website. Just like the sak websites overseas you can find all kinds of different sak, and sheaths, knife chains, ect that you cant find in the states.

Lifter4him does sheathing for a hobby... maybe if you drew him a sketch, he might be able to put something together for you. Do a quick search on the board for his posts and you will find a link to his stuff.
