I have never had a problem sharpening it before, but I must have really wangled theedge from the tip around the curved portion of the clip point to the straight part of the blade. The straight part is sharp, but I keep thinking that i'm making it worse-any input?

Sorry but can you exlpain further, i'm not sure I understand what and why it would be worse?

Are you sharpening freehand? If so, I'll bet you're lifting the back of the knife trying to make sure you get the tip and you're actually "blunting" it.
