Are these blades fragile? How do they cut?How easy to sharpen?Seems like excellent design for kitchen-camping food prep.

No, they are tough. Well, they cut very well. Easy, they sharpen very easily . Yes.

Any other questions?

I don't have the official slimlines. I have a Coulgans??? And then a few full handled.

I find the stainless even better than the carbon. It sharpens easily, and is a few points harder, and holds an edge longer. But it feels no harder to get just as if not a bit sharper.

I only have one in stainless, but it is great.

Yeah, they use 12C27 as far as I know. Not as wear resistant as something like 440C or even AUS8, but it has a grain structure as fine as you'll find in stainless so it takes a great edge real easily and has good edge stability and toughness.

Edited my post to be clearer, and less typo filled.

Also, I think everyone should try them!

I was at back yard scouting event a while ago. I had $2000 or more worth of steel with me. Guess which knife I used to make feather sticks to instruct the boys on fire starting? My $6 opinel! (I got a deal on some a while ago).

I have few opinels and love how they cut.Have bunch of Spydercos, benchmades, etc, but even when reground their blades are thick .Love thin blades for cutting..I use mine mostly for cutting food.Would like to read some comments by pple that have used these slim line opinels! Regular ones cut very well.Thin blades rule for general cutting, for other uses I use other tools......axes,screwdrivers ,prybars! And yes, I like new stainless Opinels more than carbon ones.12c27 is good steel and doesn't rust but holds edge and performs same or better than 1095:) all input welcome.

Y have a few slims and they go by the name Effiles. Have an 8 that does letter opening duties and it works great.
