Opinel?

I like my opinel No9, good carbon steel nice thin edge.

Get it wet and you're screwed though, that's the only problem.

Pretty sure they are the original locking folders.

Great knives and a great price.

I love mine ... had it almost 30 years and its' still going strong.

You can always buy a Opinel with stainless steel.

I have the #13, the "giant". Coolest thing ever!

I didn't mean the steel, if you get the handle wet it's a bear to get open/closed. the wood isn't treated well to deal with water.

sorry I was unclear

I've had one for ten years, it's become a beater yet still going strong! They are sleepers. You've stumbled onto a classic. Buy 'em for all your friends!

They're pretty freaking far from garbage. Excellent knives for the money. For all of about ten bucks you can get a very useable knife with a classic look.

Great knife- my #6 my son borrowed about 35 years ago to use as a light back-up while in scouts - It went through Philmont Scout Ranch and he carried it for a few other outings... still going strong - I picked up a #8 for myself - try standing the hinge end in a shallow cup of boiled linseed oil and let it absorb the oil - that will help with the moisture issues. But Opies are great knives!
Peace

Linseed oil is the way to go. It's even better when mixed with turpentine.

A knife design that has remained unchanged for 120 years and which has sold over 30-40 million units? Something must be good with the design...

Nothing wrong with Opinel knives!

Opinels are great knives, love them. I use them a lot in the kitchen and during camping trips, it's an Opinel that I use for food preparation. They're good for cutting other stuff too, wood, packages. Most of all I like their classic look.

I bought 12 of them last summer in France and gave them to friends for gifts. I still have 4 or 5 of them. I've had a No. 8 for about 7 years that I use all the time.
