Just came across Moore Maker knives out of Texas in a recent issue of a knife magazine. Can anyone tell me more about them and how they like the productsts? I visited their website for a short time, looks good so far so I wanted some opinions.

For some really good discussion on these I would post my question in the Traditional Knives sub forum. :)

They have been hit or miss for me. Some of the older ones were made by Camillus I believe and Queen. I think Queen and Bear & Son make them now. The only Moore Maker I have left is a stockman in 1095 that was rehandled in ironwood.

I have several Moore Maker slipjoints, and I've like them all. I think they are a well made knife, with 1095 blades. The only one I've been disappointed in is a single blade lockback which is one of their more inexpensive models, but since I got it for under $20.00 I really can't complain.

I've been using a buffalo horn, Hoof Pick Knife (made by Camillus) for trail riding since it was introduced in 2004. 1095 blade stays sharp and it has a nice strong backspring. Great knife!

PS - Their sheaths are nice too. Top quality and good fit.

I came into owning a Moore Maker (5303 Stockman circa 1996) a few years back. It seemed like a very solid knife, but it's type just aren't my thing so I traded it away here on these forums.

It was my understanding that, at least at the time of purchase of that knife, the blades were made by Camillus from 1095. Obviously this is no longer the case, so I can't really speak to that. The only major gripe I had with that knife was the difficulty in opening. To call the backsprings on that thing tight would be a huge understatement.

based in matador tx. co. large retailer in ranch tools.knives about 1995 were great. stiill have 2 n.i.b. in collection.edge holding at that time was about as good as eye brand carbon.my buddy is trying to establish present manfac.early ones 95 & older have some collector value in tx.

I have a Queen-made 5301 stockman and it has outstanding fit and finish. I do not have any experience with the Bear-made models (usually have a B in the model number) but in the pictures they do not look as good.

The older Camillus-made models have a good reputation.

Thanks everyone, I was wondering if they were made in house or had someone else make the knives for them. I have my answer.
