Well grizzly makes what I would call middle of the road stuff. It is not the worst out there but its far from the best. Depends what kind of drill press you are mounting this thing to because this table is 133lbs so mounting this thing on something from harbor freight would be bad. The x/y table may be accurate but your drilling capabilities will not be precise if mounted to say a standard 18" Variable Speed Drill Press. But if you have some heavy duty drill press from say a factory sale or something then sure it would work fine. If it were me I would save the $393.95 because you can buy a good used bridgeport mill for $4000 and you would be 1/10 of the way there.

Please make note. Cross slides on a drill press are good for positioning only. Do not try to mill using a drill press. The bearings are not made to withstand the lateral loads required. I know someone has done it for years but they are very lucky. You will burn out the bearings really fast if you use it in this manner.

I lol'd a 1/10th of the way to a bridgeport. Plenty of people are willing to spend 400 bucks on something, not so many are willing to spend 4K, especially when the 4000 dollar something basically needs it's own room and 1000 bucks can get you all the mill a knifemaker needs.

Also note that the OP said he was not planning to mill with it.

For drilling I'd just get a cross-slide as previously mentioned. It'll be plenty accurate for anything you need to drill.
