I have been interested in a CQC7A for some time but have been reluctant to get one due to the comments about quality control issues at Emerson and the negative comments about the chisel grind blade. Please let me know your thoughts on this knife. The knife would be used primarily for general utility tasks and as a last resort defensive tool. Also, I notice that the part serrated version can be purchased from SMKW for $70. The cheapest that I have found the plain satin blade model is $86. Is the part serrated that much of a disadvantage to forego the cost savings? Thanks.

serrations are personal preference.

The Emersons I have seen come across from the distributor lately have locks that fail to stay locked.

My current EDC is an Emerson CQC-7A, and it's quality is flawless.

Solid lockup, blade is centered correctly, and has no side play when the pivot screw is adjusted properly.

I suggest thuroughly inspecting it after you receive it, and if it doesn't meet standards, send it back.

Serrations are ok, but most, including myself, prefer plain edge blades. I used to prefer serrations, but they are difficult to maintain without the proper hones.

Buy the knife that best suits your taste, and intended use; you'll be happier than if you 'settled' for something you really didn't want.
