Opinion on Alpha Dorado

Well, I seem to be catching the Buck Disease. I've been admiring pictures of the Alpha Dorado. Since I'll be taking a trip and stopping at Cabela's next week, I thought I'd ask what you folks think about the Dorado.

Of course there are 2 models to choose from. I'm just looking for an alternate belt knife to give variety to my relatively new 110 carry.

Opinions on this knife?

Thanks,

Dean

That Buck fever is something else! better be careful :D
Anyway I also looked at the alpha Dorado at Cabelas, Looks like a beautiful quality knife! But when I compared it to my 110, I opted for the alpha folder 278. I prefer a little larger blade and handle though. I dont think there is anything wrong with the dorado it seems quite popular.
Just my .02

I bought a Dorado a month or two ago and I really like it. Some people suggested not to get the 420HC, but I did because of its ease of sharpening (which at times may be on a rock).

I don't like the sheath that comes with them because I could picture one day reaching for the knife and it isn't there, so I carry in my pocket. The only problem with that is the finish on the scales take a beating from anything else in my pocket (change, etc.).

Other than that, I have no complaints. It is now my EDC of choice. I do like 112's as well, but just a bit heavy for the pocket. Also, since I use it for work (in people's houses), its smaller size is more sheeple friendly.

Try it, I think you'll like it.

Depending on the store, often the "good" version (rosewood) of that knife is not much more than the cheaper one.

Without bothering to argue on the issue of how much better one steel might actually be for sharpening on rocks, is this really a knife that would be used that way? We are talking about the little one with a 2.5" blade, right?

The Cabela's website has them listed at $50 vs. $55. Buck's ATS-34 blades are among the best on the market for almost any price. I wouldn't pass up the chance to get that over a basic blade for a mere five bucks extra.

All,

Thank you for your comments.

Carl64 you make a very good point! I actually like the looks of the Rosewood ATS34 one more anyway. I'll be looking and maybe buying on Monday next.

I'll probably not be sharpening it on rocks. This will be more of a discreet carry knife for city work:)

They also have one out, new, with camo handles/sheath with the 154cm blade, might want to look into that. I have seen them for sale for $50.00.

That may be true in the U.S., but certainly not in Canada.

It's my understanding that the 420HC is easier to sharpen than the ATS-34 and as far as would it be used that way - who knows? And yes it is the 2.5" blade model.

Nor would I.

I was thinking of buying one for a while, and now with my own raving about what a good deal it is I guess I should go for it. :)
