Hey all. Looking for advice on handle material for the new Benchmade table knives. My brother and I are being gifted a set to split. Let's not get into talk of price/overprice, value, etc. I am playing with house money.

Going with stonewash CPM-154.

What handle material? Options are G10, Richlite, and Carbon Fiber (wood is an option but let's take it off the table now). We plan on using them in kitchen or at camp as prep knives or possibly steak/dinner knives.

I don't know too much about richlite. Some claims about being anti-bacterial. Seems interesting but thinking I want to stick to G10 or Carbon Fiber. 2 considerations for this:

  1. Grippiness, especially being a kitchen/prep/dining knife. Kinda thinking G10 wins out here but I am a whore for CF...

  2. Weight/balance. This seems like a toss up and possibly intangible not getting hands on the knife but wondering if CF is too light and will throw off balance otherwise G10 may be too heavy?

Overall, I am leaning heavily towards G10, especially for $200 savings over the CF but the relative purchasing these for us would spring for it... Yes, we are blessed.

I'd say G-10 but it really depends on how the CF is finished.Benchmade really peaked my interest when the choose this steel.

Hopefully they start using it in the 2021 lineup.

Yeah... I am not sure if I am going to get any definitive answer on the CF. If it's like my 940-1, I would say it's not as grippy as I would want for a kitchen knife.

Probably going to to for the G10 in blue.

I believe Richlite is very similar to paper Micarta. Its grippiness is going to depend a lot on the finish of the handle, but based on the pics of the table knife, I'd expect it to be about as grippy as the G10 option.

Jimmy- Any insights on how the CF is finished? Trying to figure out grip/texture for a kitchen knife. Thanks. -Matt

They are all machined with a "smooth" texture so they will all be equally grippy in that aspect. I guess the G10 could have slightly more grip since it is more porous.

Jimmy, is the wood option stabilized to the extent that it's highly durable and resistant to warping and shrinkage? Also, and possibility of non-serrated options?

I've been looking hard at these as I'm in need of some new kitchen knives with a butterfly on them, but I'd likely have to go with the 440C and wood options to get them in the price range I'm looking for. I really dig them, however. I'd have a custom kydex sheath made up for the field.

Yes the wood is stabilized and has been tested for water resistance. Unfortunately I am not allowed to reveal any future variants coming out.

Thanks for all the advice and input. Pulled the trigger on a set of G10 in blue. Not sure on turnaround/shipping but will get pics up after Santa visits or as soon as they arrive
