I'm looking at trading for a G10 S30V model from bladetech. Wondering what you guys who have used them thought of them. I've had knives from many other quality makers just wondering where BT stacks up to Spyderco, BM, etc.

I have a blade-tech pro hunter with S30v steel and c/f scales. It's fit and finish are top notch in my book. Blade-tech premium knives, not to be confused with their "lite" models are equal to or better in some aspects compared to Bm,spyderco, etc. IMHO.

I've heard several people talk about how good the Pro Hunter model is. Their original Tarani S30V Master's Karambit was top notch.

They are fine knives...one of the finest liner-locking production folders made. I prefer the blade shape of the M.L.E.K. model over the Pro Hunter, personally, but YMMV.

Ray :)

I have met the company owner a couple times at local gun shows. He is an avid hunter and always takes one of his folders to the field with the idea of trying to see how he can make it fail under real world conditions. I am guessing there are not many knife companies out there that can say that.

The MLEK is the one I'm getting. :)

The trade is confirmed, I should have it on the way soon. Thanks fella's.

I have been considering either a lite model or a premium model from Blade-Tech. Are there lite models significantly lower quality than the premium models? And if so, in what ways? Thank you.

Heres a review of the MLEK lite I found on you tube. I'm sure there are others but in this one the reviewer wasn't impressed.

Many things wrong with that review and quite honestly, I'm not a huge fan of his videos anyway.

A few things from that link:

- He's quoting MSRP prices, not retail. Huge difference there.
- He has a history of doing reviews and giving opinions based on a picture in a catalog and a spec sheet.
- He's reviewing the cheapest model which is not the one this thread is about.

For what it's worth, he's also done a review on the high end model and it was favorable.

I could be mistaken but I believe the "lite" models are imported. The few that
I have handled had good fit and finish, and would make a fine edc'er at there price point IMHO

I just don't like his reviews at all. Maybe it's that his voice is so furiously annoying.

I own several of the Mouse Lite folders. I also own the higher end Mouse knives that Blade-Tech made in the USA and Japan. The Lite version is made in Taiwan with an AUS-8 blade instead of S30V. Still a great little EDC.

I also have several of their Tarani Master's and Journeyman karambits that are now marketed under the 5.11 Tactical name. When the Blade-Tech name was on them they were made in the U.S. The price was too high to keep people buying them. They went with a Taiwan factory on the new 5.11 version and it's very good quality.

Oops my bad. I could have swore the OP had asked about the Lite verstions of Bladtechs knives. Sorry about that. I removed the link to not add confusion.

As far as the reviews on youtube. I figure it costs me nothing to watch them (other than time of course) and many times it gives me a chance to see different views of a knife and I form my own opinions about whether or not it is something I want or not.

I can agree with you there. I'm sure we all form out own opinions looking at things. I find I can get just as much from his reviews with the sound off than the sound on. :)

I've had mine for a couple of weeks & so far I LOVE it ! Compared to Spyderco I think it's as Good if not Better !

I have a Ganyana with S30V and a Pro Hunter lite with 440C. I carry and use both, but the S30V seems to hold an edge longer. IMO the main difference is in the materials used for the blade and scales, but not the quality of construction.

Not to change the subject, but does anyone have a source for the higher end models? All I can ever seem to find is the cheaper line.

Got the MLEK in the mail today. It's big and ugly, but it's solid, sharp, and very comfortable.

I was on the fence about the handle but it feels very good in the hand with both a strong grip and a choked up fine cutting grip.

The liner lock was very hard to get to so I took the G10 down just a bit with a small file and this thing is great now. I think I'm really going to like it.

It came sharp but a few passes on the flats of my Sharpmaker and this thing is just screaming sharp.
