I finished watching the new CS DVD "More Proof" and my attention was caught by the triple action. Mainly by how it opened. Now, the only time I've seen this knife is in picture and that DVD. I was wondering if anyone has owned one or played around with one and could tell me what they thought about it cuz I might consider getting one.:) :)

Thanks

My last jujitsu instructor had one and hadn't mastered the skills to open that knife (something about spending more time with family, friends, and work). They look great in person, but don't seem as comfortable as other pocket knives.

handle one and ya will see they are funky, imho, not at all like a bali/etc, i didnt like them.

I'm not sure what material the handle is, but the knife is a lot lighter then you would think. It doesn't feel very sturdy, and it's a little loose.

I've only handled one, and that was for a short time, so take this with a grain of salt.

It's actually really easy to learn how to open it and close it one handed. I have 3 of those Jacob's Ladder style knives (what CS calls the Triple Action). With the CS, the aluminum handles don't have much weigh for it to fly, so you really need to work on loosening the pivot. My Boguzewski flies really well, as does the other one from an Urkranian prison.

The action is simply to grip the outer handle with only your thumb and forefinger, and swing the entire knife in a single motion (with the CS TA's, you'll really has to give it a serious swing). This will send the inner handle, and then the blade, in motion. Once the blade has extended out entirely, snap the wrist to stop the initial motion, and reverse it. This then carries the inner handle back towards the outer handle. Once the handles engage, close your hand and you're good to go. It's much safer than using a balisong.

It seems so easy on the DVD, this knife is all about the opening. Its kinda like a reverse opening butterfly. Since butterflies are illegal here in Canada, I considered getting this but from the not-so positive comments so far.....I think I'll have to reconsider about this CS Triple Action.

My comment on comfort stems from the handles being squared aluminum. I like my handles to be somewhat contoured and comfortable for palm-reinforced applications. Your preferences and experiences may differ. Just try to try one before you buy because they're a bit costly.

Opinions on the Triple Action??

Hmmmm....picture a Balisong built by a three fingered retarded kid and you'll have the general idea.

The ones I've handled have seemed pretty darn lame in construction, and I've known a few folks that have had real poor luck with the aluminum handles breaking. The aluminum on these seems more akin to some form of cheap Chinese pot metal, than for example a nice piece of 6061.

It's hard to argue that Cold Steel hasn't made some damn good knives, this just aint one of them.

Of course, if'n ya' want I can quit holdin' back an' tell ya' what I really think....:D

Sorry man, I eyed one of these for a few minutes myself and was pretty disappointed.

i did handle the spear point version in a shop. Tony is right, very light. Not difficult to open one hand, cause the one i did was having the pivot lose enough. Initial impression is good, not as fun as a balisong, but ok.

My only concern is durability of the aluminium, as if there is any wear on it, the blade would start having vertical play, due to no design catering for wear. This is in contrast to a good designed linerlock where the tang end of the blade caters for liner wear by providing closer contact area the further the liner goes.

Since i didn't buy it (the price was set 3x MSRP, can you imagine???) i can't really say how durable it is ...

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like all my worries about this knife was true afterall.....good in pics, diff story in hand.
