for those who have used one, what would be the ideal length for a kubaton. I was thinking of making some either. 3.5 and 5.5 or 4.5 and 5.5. Id like to have 2 sizes available. As far as thickness I will probably stick to 1/2" thick. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Here is one of the first pieces I made:

I have a couple, they are both 5.5 inches in length, 1/2 inch in diameter. Perfect size for keychain carry as far as I can tell.

The Kubaton was based on the traditional Yawara stick. A man named Tak Kubota modernized the design of the yawara stick and popularized its use. The only requirements for a yawara was that, when held in the fist, extended on each end by about 2cm. If you have big hands you'd want a longer stick. If you have small hands you want a shorter one.

I like to have them extend from both sides of the hand. The top for upwards strikes to the chin/neck/sola plexus and the bottom for hammerfists. 5.5 inches is perfect for me. If you want to carry 2 sizes I'd go with that and a 4.5 for those with smaller hands (women and younger people).

For koppo style pocketsticks we tried different lengths, thicknesses and one/two finger loops. The consensus was two fingerloop, 5.5" long, and
5/8" diameter.

very nice, thanks for the feedback guys.

I am really liking that two whole design near the center for the handle.
