Hey everyone, i love this forum! Was wondering if anyone has looked at or taken any of these online survival classes from East Texas Survival? I don't buy into most 'survival' schools, but these look pretty sound. Might take the free class they offer. Would like input put if you know anything about them or what you think.
Thanks
Carol

If it's free you can't really go wrong. I will say lookout for any class you gotta pay for due to the fact that now everyone and there brother seems to have a tactical or survival school and they will fill your head with nonsense to get you to spend more money. Shows like doomsday prepers and such have in stalled very unrealistic fears in people. So don't let anyone talk you into anything you don't feel comfortable with and an always worth while class is tracking and they are offered for free too. Good luck and have fun!

Wow I can't believe no1 else has responded to you yet. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. If I can't answer your question I'll admit it a and get you the correct info.

Read a few good books and get as much woods time/skills practice as you can. With friends if possible. You'll probably come out with more usable knowledge than sitting in front of your computer screen.More fun too. Just my $.02 worth.--:D==KV

from their website - " This course is designed to give our free members a taste of what an actual course is like"
I would suggest the investment into a hands on actual course. I did one for 7 days in Utah. Some things you just have to actual hand-on experience and practice.

Books and the net are a good start too as another poster said. Most of these skill can be practiced in your backyard. The only courses worth paying for are firearms courses taught by NRA instructors and only them too many people now who were military or contractors think they know it all and dress and act like they are all knowing and the same with wilderness instructors. At least 90% are scams you would be better off getting some books and info of the net and practice in your yard and then get some friends and start making some weekend trips testing your skills with your buds it will be more fun and more people means more info to share and try. I have the creds to open a survival school and I won't because it's just simply taking advantage of people.

I feel as if it'll just be gimmicky and give you no realistic information, pretty much just expressing what you would get if you pay for their services. I'd just stick to books, Internet and practise. You don't need to be in a wilderness setting, so long as your not limited to just a balcony you can practise most skills right in the backyard. Look for books like "The Complete Woodsman" by Paul Provencher and others similar, aswell as some writings on the area you live/roam in. I learned everythin I know as a child so just feel as if these courses are money grabs for people that are insecure with their skill set or people that are in populated metro areas. Just my 2cents.

Check with any local colleges, and non-profit groups like Explorers clubs, Sierra Club, SAR teams, nearby state/national parks etc. Many offer free courses or day-hikes on things that relate to survival; although not necessarily survival per se as we might think of it. (more like plant ID, orienteering, outdoor 1st aid, animal tracks/habits and so on... all of which are fun and important)

Also if you want to learn to hunt and trap I'm sure you or someone you know knows someone who does and will take you on some hunts and hunters safety courses teach you good info.
