Opinion on Puma Tac1 and Puma Scout

I have not seen these two knives before. It looks like they use a different steel in these.

If you are looking at Puma products, you might want to also check with Held's knives, www.pumaknives.com

The Puma "German Expedition Knife" i have uses 1.4116 and is 5.00 mm
The Puma tac 1 uses 1.4110 and is 5.00 mm
The Puma scout uses 1.4109 and is 4.00 mm

The steel that they ise for tac1 and scout is different from the German Expedition Knife that i own which is one of my best knive and with Alarion Puma Tac 1 review and Puma does it again so i need to know how do the tac1 and scout really fare.

Well, I did a simple search here and got this:

Sounds like your best served elsewhere. Look into the Beckers, for the money they cannot be beat. If you want a fighter, look at the hatori fighter from junglee or the Katz Alley Kat if you can find one (same basic knife).

Also the Timberline Specwar was an awesome blade and if you can find a good one it would be worth your while. They retailed for $390 but could be gotten for around $260 on sale. They are not available anymore, but there should be plenty of used ones around.

Looking for a blade that is around US$120/-+.
That can be use as a all round utility knife.
Has good corrosion resistant that can be use as a diveknife.
Preferable with saw back and some seration and full tang.

I know knife like these is good for nothing but just need a knife that can do almost anthing.

Boker Orca. Made for diving.
I think MacBeth might have trouble getting some of the knives that we can because of his nationality.
Others from that part of the world have complained.
Is Boker fairly common in your area?

True enough but i intend to buy it online pro is that this way i have a wide selection con is that i do not get to see the knife 1st. So i need to get more input before i make the purchase.
The boker Orca 1 and 2 did come in to my consideration but is abit dear too compared to others such as sog pup and Benchmade Dive Knife.

I think it's an attempt to be more knives at once than one knife can be. I think it's okay as knives go -- it's strong and sharp -- but the ergonomics could be better, the sheath is overdesigned, and the overall package is overpriced. It will be exactly what some people are looking for, if you like your knives German and scary looking, but there are better buys in the category.

I do agree on what you say "I think it's an attempt to be more knives at once than one knife can be". I understand that this kind of knives are jack of all trades and master of none. Which they can do many different work but does nothing well. But this is the kind of blade that i need when i go hiking. I don't want to carry an axe, a saw, a knife...... . Just one that will take care of most cutting need and can take certain degree of punishment. So strong blade, full tang, saw back, serration and with good corrosion resistant. And about the price Puma products has never been cheap i know that but you are getting your price for
http://www.coastcutlery.com/?v=29&pl=95&p=338 Which is US$169
I found it for US$ 122.33

So end of the line is it worth the money or you have better recomendation.

"Is it worth the money" is really a very subjective question -- it all depends on whether that amount is what you can afford. If you like it and you can afford it, heck, go ahead and buy it.

Thanks alot. Benjamin Liu
by the way care to give some opinion about the puma scout or tac 1?

I haven't even seen one up close, so I can't really say. It was on my list of knives to consider buying when I was looking for a new tanto but I finally went with a TOPS Anaconda. It looks like it would be a nice tactical tanto.

http://www.survival.com/anaconda.htm it is out of stock and it is made of 1095 high carbon steel and so it is NOT stainless. It would not be a good choice for a blade if you need corrosion resistance. I live in a desert so corrosion resistance is not that big a deal to me.

Here is my review on the Hoodlums forum:

I'm still on vacation at my family's place in Illinois. I got my Anaconda back in December and have been waiting to chop stuff with it since then. I wasn't going to bring it at first due to the higher than before possibility of baggage handler theft, but I couldn't resist. I really only test my knives for things I use them for. I don't try to cut cement bricks or chop cars in half.

Over here when I'm at home or in the woods, I've found that the Air Assault is far more useful than a folder. At first I thought the conventional (rather than crossdraw) sheath would get in the way a bit, bit it has given me no problems, even when doing rolls and ukemi and running through the brush playing paintball. The sheath retention is very good. I really don't like pocket clip folders for this environment since I have had then fall out of my pockets in the past and in thick vegetation like this they could be pulled out and I probably would not find them. IMO folders are mainly for urban carry. I pretty much keep my Endura and CQC-7 in my luggage.

When I want something larger, I take the Anaconda. The clip on the sheath is really handy since I can take the knife on and off quickly. The knife chops well enough for survival situations. If I cane in late summer I'd have more to clear, but the Anaconda has proven a good chopper from what I have chopped. It does not chop as well as my Kris Cutlery Bonicafio Bolos, but the bolos are longer and thinner, and have a chopping edge that does not cut very well as a knife. It is more of a specialty tool. The Anaconda does work as a knife and I'm sure I can pry with it unlike the bolo, and it is probably also much harder to break. I wasn't able to get the wire breakers to work. It may have been due to some very strong wire on the fence. The edges on a notch rolled a little, but I can fix that when I get home. That isn't a feature I really care about anyway since I have a small wirecutter in my BOB. I just saw the fence while holding the Anaconda and had to cut it.

Anaconda 9.5" $265.00
Anaconda "B" Model 7 inch $229.00
It is abit expensive
Sog pup 4.75" x .160" $64.95
Sog seal 7" x .250" $109.95
Sog tigershark 9" x .250" $119.95
I am sure Anaconda are good knifes and infact better than any i have mention is just too expensive for me.
