Hey guys, i would like some opinions on the cold steel SK-5 khukuri as an all around blade. How is the edge retention? Is it worth the money? I have always loved khukuris and have 2 H.I's and 1 KaBar Khukuri Machete. I am looking for something heavier than the KaBar, but lighter than a 18" H.I WWII. I really like the shape and flow of the Cold Steel, but is it worth the money? I would like the opinion of somebody that has used it on a regular basis out camping and such.
Thanks.

I was in your situation a short time ago. I really like the looks of the CS, but I can't spend that much on a blade. I was able to make a trip to SMKW to hold, see, and feel several different brands... Kabar, CS, Ontario, and Condor. All were within my price range ( except the CS, but I wanted to hold it anyways). I ended up buying the Condor, and I couldn't be happier. Good weight, thanks to a 5/32 blade and iirc, the 13a in. in length. I have beat the snot out of it , everything from feather sticks to battoning. The steel has held up above my expectations. To me, its one heck of a deal for 20 bucks.

That sounds like to good of a deal to pass up, but in that weight class my k-bar is king I've had it for years and trust it. I'm leaning more towards the cold steel but I'm not to convinced on the durability and quality for the money. I LOVE my H I WWII but i ... the sheath.

Well, you can always make your own sheath if you really like the HI. I made this one from 2 inch PVC pipe... total cost 12 bucks. Or you can make it out if kydex for a little more. Go on YouTube and look up making a knife sheath, they show how to do both PVC and kydex.

That looks really cool! I think I'll update my HI khuk carry. What kind of carrying system you you have on it? -I don't see belt loop or any other means of attachment for it.
