Greetings -

I'd just like a generla opinion of the Omega Liner Lock - Deep Blue - folding knife. I'm interested in purchasing it @ Completeknives.com for $9.95 - But I'd just like an opinion on the quality of United knives. I've never bought any of their knives and I'm only really familiar with CRKT and Benchmade products. My EDC is the CRKT Long's Peak and the Benchmade miniGriptilian 555, both knives are great and I highly recommend both. I'd just like to know if the Unite Omega Line Lock is any good. If you can, please assist me in my decision.

Thanks.

As a general rule all of the knives they
offer are a.......NOT:(

They offer what is called "Price Point"
knives of little quality. :barf: :barf:

Don't waste your money. CRKT quality is a lot better - to the point where I would actually use a CRKT knife but, the United wouldn't even make it to serious consideration.

Save up a little longer and get something you will enjoy using that is a safe and functional piece of gear. The entry level Spyderco and Benchmade knives offer a lot of value for their pricepoints and, don't seem that expensive (I've picked up Spyderco's - real ones, not knock off's for as little as $20 NIB) at ~$40. The CRKT knifemaker collaborations are approachng the same levels of quality but, usually don't have as good a blade steel but, their pricepoints tend to be lower as well.

Up to the $50 to $60 range, you really get a lot more value for your additional dollars spent on a good quality knife from a reputable maker/manufacturer. Less then $20 and you really have to look closely to get a knife that is safe. Lockbacks are pretty hard to screw up but, poorly made liner locks can be down right dangerous to use. How much are your fingers worth?

Yes, I know that sounds harsh but, a female co-worker nearly amputated fingers doing an ice-pick stab with a poor quality liner lock style knife. FWIW, I don't do ice-pick stabs with liner locks so, I may be a tad biased here.

hmmmmm...well if you want the truth, dont waist your money, especially if you intend on using it!! want something inexpensive just get a crkt, alot better than your alternative!!!

I can't speak to the quality of the knife in question. However, I recenlty bought a Fred Carter designed FC4 that is marketed through United Cutlery. I have been quite pleased with it. Most of United's knives are a bit cheesy for my taste but I do like the Carter line.

Greetings -

Well, I thank you all for your assistance. I was actually looking to purchase the knives for this coming Christmas and give them away as stocking stuffers for my co-workers. I work at a retail housewares store in New York City called Gracious Home and my fellow co-workers are in desperate need of some real knives - They've been using box cutters for everything from cutting rope, to trimming fabric, and of course openg boxes. I thought it would be a nice gesture to get them something better than box cutters for everyday use. United was the lowest priced knives I could find that I could buy in bulk because I need 10 to 20 of them - I definitely would have liked to get them some CRKT knives or better yet some Benchmade knives, but that would go beyond my means. I truly know how great a a well made folder can be, I own several myself - I just wanted these guys to know too.

Anyway, thanks again for all your assistance.

You can get stainless Opinels for about $9 or the little Classic SAKs for about $10 on the net. For about $16 you can get a basic SAK like the Tinker.

frank has got a wonderful idea!!! it would be cheap and you could show your face at work after you give them to your co-workers!!!

...and look at it this way!!! they wont be asking you shortly afterward why the knives wont cut well!!!! or hold a decent edge!!! :) ...oops!!! just remembered smoky (www.smkw.com) has some opinels for 7 dollars!! and some sak cheap! cheap!! cheap!!!

Greetings -

Thanks - I started checking out the in-expensive folders at Smokey Mountain, and I found the CRKT Ace thier for only $10, the Red Dog and DooLittle for $13 a piece as well as some KA-BAR International Lockbacks and Meyerco knives for under $10 - But I'm leaning more towards the CRKT Ace because I'm personally familiar with the brand and have only heard of Meyerco and KA-BAR through second hand talk. I'm no sure on the quality of their knives so if you have an opion about them, please let me know.

Thanks again for the assist.

the kabar internationals are not exactly something to brag about. the three ive seen were really poor quality, I cant speak for the fixed blade models of these. the meyerco's are ok for what your doing. if I were you I would go for the crkt doolittles they will fit the bill for what you need. the meyercos are ok, but if they are going to be using them constantly they wont hold up forever. Ive owned two of the old rascals, three of the big rascal and two of the small models. they wellll werent impressive!!!!

go for the doolittle, at least no one will curse you (so to speak!!):)
