Hey all,
Just picked up a Boye Basic 3 for $60 with original sheath that has brass inserts. It's about 10 years old, but I think I got a pretty good deal. Does anyone have experience with this knife? How well does it sharpen and does it hold it's edge well. Thanks for any feedback.

Check it with a magnet. If the magnet sticks, it's 440C stainless. If the magnet doesn't stick it's Stellite. If it's Stellite, it will be harder to sharpen, but the edge will last longer. Also if it's Stellite, I'll give you $65 for it.

If it's really a Boye knife, it's made of dentritic cobalt, which is David
Boye's patented blade material. It retails for around $300 so if it's
in good shape you got a hell of a deal.

Totally rustproof and non magnetic, the knives cut forever and
sharpen easily. I have a few of his folders and they are amazing.
