I'm thinking of picking one of these up, just like to hear everyone's thoughts about this great looking knife... Spyderco Barong

I handled one in a passaround and didn't like it. I think my hands are about two sizes larger than Ed Schempp's, as his other designs that I have handled don't fit me well, either. A lot of folks really seem to love the Barong.

My opinion, and I haven't held one in real life, is that it needs more cutting edge. Tom Krein can take care of that, I suppose.

If you have Tom Krein regrind it the Barong is an amazing knife. Krein brings the edge back behind the hole, which still leaves room for a choil, and for a tiny bit extra he will grind in a thumb ramp and spine swedges to make the blade very much like the original full size Calypso. If you don't have massive hands the ergos are excellent, and the forward canted blade really cuts like crazy. I never had the knife in the factory configuration, but when it is Kreined it is a great cutting, easy carrying, lightweight large blade folder.

I really like mine; haven't missed the edge not being closer to the handle at all. That's the big polarizing feature of the Barong... but if you do want it changed, as others have already said, it can be done.
