i am looking for a fairly large and heavy ballpoint pen that has a screw on cap, and made of titanium. this would eb something similar to the Ti Pen mentioned in the JSP Bladerigger forum a while back. alas, that project is not in motion at this time. anyone have any experience with a large-ish pen, where the body is titanium, the top screws on, and is not a fountain pen? i have been (and am continuing) some yawara/kubotan/pressure point training, and the leverage a nice round pen-like item provides is phenomenal. any ideas? thanks!!

German made, Rotring or "red ring", very heavy brass construction.

It's one of the few pens/pencils that should withstand SD use, without being specifically designed for SD use.

The Mutt is right on the money. The Rotring pen model is the 600.

I've got a couple of Rotring 600 pens and a mechanical 600 pencil. In spite of being brass, I don't think they're that heavy, but that's just me. The earlier style has a nicely knurled lower body, and an ink cartridge type of "support" nose. The hexagonal body might add some interesting aspects to SD use.

This is what my set looks like, my other pen being the same thing but in "tactical black". ;)

The "new" 600s don't have the knurling. Instead they have a narrowed down section with a "shoulder" close to the point, and the "nose" is gone as well, replaced by a standard point.

Why does the pen have to be titanium? Simply a personal preference? Probably the best titanium pen I can think of right now that could be used for SD is the Retro 51 Titanium Tornado

A drawback is that to my understanding the Retro 51s are on the stubby side. For example, the Tornado Elite is claimed at ~ 3-1/2".

Besides, isn't "heavy" and "titanium" a contradiction in terms?

Not exactly what you're looking for, but might work. Go to tripleaughtdesign.com and search for the "Ti Pencil" from JSP.

I think you're right, Zardoz.

One reference I saw said, "These pens feature technologically advanced finishes..."

Another: "Contemporary design meets renowned Swiss metal-application technology."

One website mentions that for all four "Metals" collection Sensas, they feature, "Sophisticated aeronautical alloys offer light weight, tensile strength and color brilliance from ultra fine grain particulates." That means the Copper, Bronze, Gunmetal and the Titanium.

I kinda don't care what they plate them with, the Sensa Metals are some awesome looking pens. :)

Go to SELF DEFENSE FORUMS AND CLICK ON TO THE GENERAL DISCUSSION WEAPONS the thread is titled to the tun of eddie murphys i got ice cream and check out the pen i think it may be what your looking for it can be purchased at www.theinkflow.com David

there are moves which put pressure in the side of the pen, which will immediately snap most pens. Stick and poke... don't do anything you wouldn't do with your genitalia...LOL

Vactor,

You ordered one? I went and looked and couldn't quite be sure which was the one featured in the SelfDefense forums thread. Can you specify which one it is and which one you ordered, please?

I saw the Mazzuoli on Usualsuspects.net this morning. What a balls-on pen, very cool. :)

BTW the Retro 51 Tornado comes in two sizes. The larger one is very strong. Still medium sized. Worth a look. It's also a great writer.

Based on the thread on USN, it sounds like the pens you see on inkflow are not exactly the one in the thread being discussed on SDF, because the SDF version has a clip on it and the ones on inkflow do not. Apparently, the model with the clip is a newer one.

Co-incidentally, we had Skoda visit us at work recently on a sales drive, and they left a lot of give-away stuff, including some solid metal pens, beautiful sturdy roller-balls built like a tank marked up with the Skoda emblem. Opened them up, and they were Rotrings! Thank you very much Skoda xx

Zardoz, there didn't happen to be a few extra Skoda pens lying about, was there? I'm a big fan of both Rotring and Skoda (their WRC effort), so I have purely self-indulgence in mind. :)
