Opinions for a Large Chris Reeve

So I think the next CR I purchase is going to be a large to pair with my small 21.
Im a little torn between an Umnumzaan and a Large Inkosi. Any thoughts? Anyone have the chance to handle both?
Looks like the Inkosi has an edge with the larger washers and the clip being off the lock bar.

IIMHO both are worth being considered... and even if they look very different they share a lot of similarities
You can choose on your preference

I have the large Inkosi and I see no real benefits so far for the clip being off the lock bar, compared for exemple to a large sebenza (I am not a hard user so it may be different for you)

I am happy with the large Inkosi, only the lanyard position "bugs" me and I removed it (I keep it on my sebenza)

The lock bar on the Inkosi is a benefit for me since I play with my knives. Lock bars on Sebenza's are so stiff. Moves effortlessly on the Inkosi. At least on the small Inkosi I've played with.

The Umnumzaan is the original Chris Reeve "hard use" folder that originated the ceramic ball lock interface and thicker blade stock. There are several editions available including the original harpoon style blade, the Tanto style blade, and the Wilson Combat edition with harpoon blade (available from Wilson Combat). In addition to the above mentioned features, the Umnumzaan has a lockbar over-travel stop, which I think is a feature worthy of consideration for a hard-use blade: Assuming one is in a high adrenaline situation where fine motor skills go away, the over-travel stop will prevent accidental bending of the lockbar, and especially when wearing gloves. The Umnumzaan also uses the thumb studs with o-rings as the blade stop pins as opposed to a fixed stop pin on the Inkosi. That helps make it a little quieter when opening and easier for re-assembly after a full cleaning.

In the end you need to get both because the Inkosi has a whole bunch of features that separates it from the Umnumzaan, including the large hollow grind drop point and micarta inlay options.

The lock bar it smoother on my small Inkosi than on my large Inkosi

Matching Large 21 to your small...

or go with the Umnum. :)

OK. So Large 21 a better option than the Zaan?

That's completely subjective...you need them all!
Here's the deal Nick, opinions are simply PERSONNEL preferences . If we all liked the same knife CRK wouldn't have so many models to choose from.
As much as I hate to tell you, you'll end up trying them all. If not you'll always wonder...hmmm how about that other model, could it be better for me?

I agree 110%

But i like the idea of having the same large and small knife. Like having a compact version of a full size gun. You shoot the large one well, when you need something smaller, you're already well versed in how the platform handles ;-)

Yes I agree everyone needs a matching large and small then can move on to umnumzaan and inkosi's and so forth. But get the 2 main ones out of the way.

Words of wisdom right here. An example of this is when the 25 first came out. I waited before getting one so I could read reviews bout it before pulling the trigger. At the time or release, the reviews weren't very positive so I decided to pass on that knife. I felt so good about waiting...

.....fast forward a several months later I had to opportunity to get one on a trade and decided "why the hell not". It then quickly became my favorite CRK! I felt so bad waiting so long before trying one. LOL

Now I try to just handle the knives and decided which one(s) I like. I will say this - I haven't handled a single CRK that I can honestly say "I don't like it". They all have their little differences but IMO not enough to make them bad. But then again there's a few I still haven't tried.

Cheers!

I find the lockbar on the Umnumzaan to be stiffer than any other CRK I have. Some 21's are more stiffer than others. Only have 25's, I find them to be almost as stiff as the Umnumzaan. Don't know if there's any lock bar tension between the 25 and Inkosi.
