Hi Everyone,With my new attraction to small/med fixed blades,I'm really liking the looks of this one.I may get the stag handle at the custom shop...
BuckAlpha.jpg

Weight: 7.2 oz. (204 g.)
Handle Material: Rosewood
Carry System: Brown leather sheath
Blade Steel: ATS-34
Length Overall: 8 1/2" (21.6 cm.)
Blade Length: 3 3/4" (9.5 cm.)
Blade Shape: Drop point
Knife Type: Fixed Blade

I'm looking for opinions & (hopefully) some in hand pics on this model. Is it comfortable to use for extended periods. How does it perform?...etc.

When you say "Buck",most people immediately think of the 110,but I've always been a big fan of Buck's fixed blades.I think they do the clip point the best of all production knives.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Have a good one,:)

John

it is a nice feel in the hand, is not as thick and heavy as the folding version. there is one other a longer bladed fixed blade
that has a grip some what like this and it is the
819 which was a limited production.

Hi John,

I like the Alpha series knives. Here are some photo's of a few different configurations that have been offered.

Dave...What the ---- are you talking about???? John is asking for info on Alphas and you are talking about a Wood version of the 119 Special with S30V. Yes the 819 is a fixed blade but it's no Alpha brother:p

JB,
Remember this is Dave we're talking about. I believe he's drawing on the similarity of the two having a full tang with a lanyard hole. :o
YEP Mike got it !
his 334dave is much improved after talking with me and Haebbie for hours..
and i plead i did say of a similar grip , should have said of
the full tang and hole with wood grips..
blade is nothing like an alpha..
i like that sweet sweep on the 819 with MP blade.. wish it was a 120..
but mine has HH Buck and Son on it and does not say s30v..

I believe there were two 819's.... one was the 819SS (Signature Series) Mirror polished with S30V and a lighter wood. The other one was not S30V and a darker walnut. Same situation in the 805's

John-I've had the Alpha Hunter for over a year, I love it. I wear it mostly when doing outside work, I haven't put it to any real hard work but mostly for cutting rope, boxes, etc. It has been great. My only complaint is the sheath strap gets in the way when trying to resheath the knife so you either have to move it out of the way with your other hand (kind of defeats the purpose) or with the knife which I don't like doing since I'm afraid I'll nick the sheath. Beyond that it's so light I have to check and make sure it's still there sometimes.

I had the same problem with my Vanguard (the sheath of which I thought was a bit thin), but I resolved it with the Vanguard by buying one of the cordura sheaths that is nice and deep, to the point where I would feel ok temporarily not using the strap-it reminds me of an Ed Fowler type of sheath, pouch style. I don't know if he came up with it but I saw it first in his literature in the early 90s. I actually got the Vanguard because it reminded me of his knives which I have always admired but probably won't ever be able to afford, at least 'til I hit the Mega Millions.
