Hey guys,

Just received my Cold Steel Ad-15 today! I was beyond excited about it! The knife is perfect except it cannot be opened with one hand. The thing is even difficult to open with two hands! I tried loosening the pivot screw and no dice. The thing is also incredibly difficult to close! I am at a loss at this point. Any ideas? Should I send it back(DLT Trading)? Send it to CS for warranty? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I would conact CS first and see what they say. DLT will likely swap it for you for a new one.

No sure if it will work on AD15s but you can try letting the knife sit for a while with the blade half way open. Sometimes thay helps.

What I could imagine: too much loctite used and it got into the pivot. Have you tried disassembling it?

Ive got to head out of town this weekend so ill take your advice and leave it halfway open for the weekend! Thank you!

I figured at first when I read the title you had your hand on the lock bar. I struggled with that at first.

then really read the whole post and realized it's a too tight issue even with two hands. I got no idear other than call cold steel or dealer ya bought from for warranty or an exchange. hope ya get a good one.

DLT is active on the forum. You could tag him in this thread and that will bring it to his attention and see what he has to say. From what I've seen from him he seems like a good guy.

I would adjust both pivots. The one for the blade and the one for the yoke. Try both loose and see how that feels. If it’s still difficult then hmm I don’t know what else can cause the tension but the spring. I wouldn’t modify it in anyway. Have you tried leaving it half open overnight ?
I wouldn’t return/exchange it as you disassembled it already.

I pulled mine apart today, the lock bar spring is REALLY stiff. I pulled it out and tried to swap in a spring from a ball point pen but the detent was too weak. Instead I swapped the cold steel into the pen and clicked it for about 10 minutes.. it’s a little better but I still think it’s too stiff. I cut my trigger finger to the bone a few years ago and don’t have the strength that I should, I imagine most folks should be alright pulling back the lock bar.

Let me know if that helps a bit. I’m curious.
Hey Lapedog!

Sorry for the overdue response! It did help a bit! I have left it open almost every night and now it's opening much smoother. It is a harder knife to open because of the the lock. Ive also played with the tightness of the screws as well. Now the Ad-15 opens great.
