MidwestDave sent me these two drawings, and asked that I post them for opinions, and suggestions.

Modified Roach Belly

Most impressive.
Clearly the work of a genius.
Obviously designed by a man of culture, learning, and vision.

Not Dave

I like the Roach Belly design. The other one does not do it for me but it might appeal to some. Someday I want the roach belly. For now I have Much iron in the fire, or I should say, Johns oven.:)

Somebody say fire!

I like the modified EWOK, reminds me of Patricks camp knife entry, and just like the camp knife I just don't know what I would do with it. I just really don't like that blade shape, I don't find it does really anything all that well. Maybe if it was thicker stock (3/16) I'd go for it as a more heavy use urban EDC knife, but not with the 3/32. But I do like the aesthetics, but unfortunately I really only buy things that I'm going to use.

Put the EWOK handle (longer version) on the Roach Belly blade...throw on some thumb grooves (jimping)...and you're talkin'.

The Roach Belly looks great and the sizes look like it should be great as well !

The Mod EWOK...I'd drop the point down maybe half inch and then curve the blade from the point to meet the bottom edge rather than having the harsh straight front portion ! JMO though !!!!

This is what I'd like to see happen to that roachbelly.

Give it a hollow grind and a polished finish. Make the blade height 2". It would be an excellent kitchen knife. Not saying it wouldn't be great anywhere else, but that's what I'd like to have in my kitchen.

A few things, I would change on the Roach Belly. I would keep the length, but make the belly not as steep. The edge would go from the original tip to the top of the secondary bevel. So it would be ~1.5 wide steel. I think a EWOK style would work even better. I think it will look a little more traditional that way, but more modern than the original. But, those are just my opinions.

I'm liking Roach Belly/straight back designs the more I look at them.

I like the first design but would round out the tanto edge. I'd also round out the finger/guard area a bit.

When I talked to Dave he said it should not be straight like his drawing, it should have a normal curve.

I think I prefer the original roach belly due to the handle...although a 1/4" extended tang would be sweet.
