First off, I want to thank all of you who, two years or so ago, were patient with another knife newb. I have been silent and learned much from your words and recommended sources. Now I'm attempting to put forth some intelligent questions... therefore, feel free to laugh. :D

So, I just bought a Ka-Bar D2 Impact Clip Point - snagged it on ebay for $48.00. It's a beautiful knife, and I'm sure its functionality is, relatively, on par. But I keep wondering how this particular D2 is going to hold up in the area of toughness.

I know D2's performance hinges heavily on its heat treatment; so, my question is, "What's your opinion of Ka-Bar's D2?" - specifically relating to the D2 Extreme Fighter and D2 Impact Series

Thanks.

I have small KaBar Dozier folder with D2 made in Japan, I am not sure is it same place where you knife made in, but this little folder performs pretty good, not as good as Dozier D2 but close.

Thanks, Vassili.

Apart from the model number," 1464," the tang stamp only says "KA-BAR USA." I'm not sure if that means it was made in the USA or not.

I guess it is USA then. I do not see reason to hide Japan origin.

Dozier has some cooperation with KaBar and so may pass them some tricks how to heat treat D2 - but this is just speculations.

Thanks, Vassili.

Well, after seeing that chart on edge retention that you put together, I respect your speculations. :)

I'm guessing it would be safe to assume then that it is a little shy of Dozier D2 but, nonetheless close.

Thanks.
