Granted it is not something you can legally carry(unless you watch CNN and believe the world is coming to an end). It's more of a colectible. i just bought one new for 29.99 stamped uS Army 1995.

So I take it that this model is the one built with an M7 bayonet, making it a pseudo post war "Case V-42" with deadly skull crusher?
It's a fighting knife with a bad kraton handle, if you ask me.
No problem with the skull crusher though!
Try that on cans.

Don't know anything about it or it's history. That's why I posted. I wanted to find out. i didn't know about the v2 until I read a post a few days ago.

Since it was an opinion the OP asked for, here's mine: Decent thrusting weapon but not so much as far as cutting goes. The "skull crusher" would make carry sort of awkward (note the sheath on the original V42). Good steel. And I like rubber handles so no complaints there for me :)

It sounds like Ontario Knives took an M7 bayonet blade and put a different handle and pommel on it. Were these ever miitary issue? SMKW advertised as a 'trench" knife. Is this one as good or worse than the old Gerber Mark2?
