I saw a few of these at a weapons show I attended this afternoon. Unfortunately the display was busy and I was not able to handle one. I am curious what your opinions are of these knives. I am specifically looking at the CQC-7A, but opinions on the B model would be appreciated too. Thanks.

I am trying to decide whether my next purchase will be the Emerson or a Benchmade 705 to compliment the Benchmade 710 I just bought. By the way, that 710 is one heck of a knife!

Can't help you much with Emerson ideas. I just got a 710HS also. I sure like the Axis lock. I recommend handling one for awhile before buying it. A guy here let me try out the 710 for a day.

I don't know if this really germaine to your question but I can't remember ever having had an emerson CQC7 returned. We've had lots of Benchmade 705's returned - not because of defects or function but because customers just "didn't like it." I think the Axis mechanism is more appropriate to a larger knife than the 705. The CQC7, of course, is a larger knife than the 705. Take care.

I have one, a CQC7a, spear point blade.

First of all I got the wrong model, I ordered an "A" , but got the chisel ground one. I sent it back and got the correct model.

But...

The stop pin was loose on mine, fixed it temporarily with some tape on the end of the pin.
The grind lines was a bit uneven. This knife is meant to be carried tip-up or tip-down. But because of the pivot pin protruding too much, the clip couldn't be mounted satisfactory for tip-down carry.

Besides theese errors, it is a nice knife, feels solid, no bladeplay, locks up tight.

And the ats-34 steel isn't to overhardened, quite easy to sharpen.

But it is NOT worth its retail price at $129.95, in my humble opinion.

JMB: I have a CQC 7A (Spear Point). I like the action and the thumb stud, particularly since I'm a leftie. My only complaint is that it is the toughest knife I own to bring sharp; even harder that a Spydie military. I would pay $70 - $ 100 for it but not full price.

Perhaps I should add:
Relatively easy to sharpen. Or at least it was easier than i expected to remove the amounts of steel needed to get a somewhat useful symetrical edge.

I myself use a CQC7B as my daily defensive knife. It has replaced my Benchmade Stryker for many reasons. I like the action, it's a whole lot smoother. The finish of the G-10 in my opinion is much better in quality than the Benchmades, it's almost like my Commander which is one of my favorite knives. I like the tanto point for looks and for defensive "thrusting" maneuvers. Yes it is pretty easy to sharpen, especially on my Spyderco sharpmaker 204.

The Axis-lock on the 710 is pretty cool, but I like the action of the axis-lock on the 730 a whole lot better. Plus I like the finish of the G-10 on the 730 as compared to the 710, it seems more smoothened out. The 710 would make for an excellent defensive knife, however it's blade length is a tiny bit over 4 inches, and possible infringements on knife laws may occur.

All I can say is get a CQC7B and 730, heck maybe even the 710. I used to like the 710, but am selling it on Ebay at this moment. I really like the 730SBT a whole lot better.

Nightglock,

Out of curiosity, what is it about the 730's lock that is better than the 710's? I received my 710 on Thursday and really like it a lot. It seems much stronger and more reliable than a lockback and certainly more so than a liner lock. My only complaint is that the pressure needed to unlock the blade is a little stiffer than I'd like, but it is still new. I hadn't really considered a BM730 because I thought it looked pretty similar to the 710 except for the multicolored handles and the different blade profile. But if it is noticeably different, I'd definately consider one.

By the way, those are some nice pics.

My vote is the CQC7B-BT. I really like the thickness of the handle. It is not my daily carry(Ma Socom), but whne I was checking it out as a blade, it sits nice in the pocket and has a great grip to it. I sell more of those at the Gun/Knife shows than the Benchmades??

NightGlock.....you have got the coolest pics!

JMB, the 710 is really a nice knife, and my complaint was also that the pressure to unlock the blade was stiffer as well. As compared to the 730, it seems that the 730 doesn't require as much pressure, translates for me into smoother opening. I don't know if all 710's are made this way, or if it takes a while for it to break in, but for me, many of the knives I own are collectibles and have a smooth action ever since I got them, without having to break them in. Yes, the 730 is a much different knife and if you don't care for the colored handles, don't get it. I got it because I liked the overall style of the knife and also I like the colored handles, they're different than the rest of my "tactical" knives. The thing is that's weird is that my girlfriend has a 705 and the action on that is much smoother than the 710's. I love how easy it is to open than 710 (easy to open but again, requires a bit more pressure to unlock the blade). Glad you like my pics. Check the photo album occasionally because I'll be adding new pics as I get new knives/guns.

Mpayne, I too like the thickness of the handle and it's comfortable for me. I just love the overall feel of the knife in my hand as well. Yes, you are going to sell a lot more CQC7's because for such a low price (I've seen them from 70 to 90 dollars), you get such a great knife. Benchmades on the other hand are usually at least $100 (I'm sure it depends on where you go, but that's the usual price I've seen). Glad you like my pics too! Did you see the pics of my mini-SOCOM and auto Kestrel? Microtechs are also an excellent knife as well!
