I lost my SOG Powerlock and I'm looking for another "tool-knife" to replace it, but I wanted to try something different and I'm considering the Schrade Tough Tool. Anyone care to share their opinions on it? Any pros and cons?

This tool, to me , is one you hate or love. I owned one
and wound up giving it to the neighbor kid for helping
me.

For a wide range of opinions of multi tools in general
do a search here. You have days worth of reading to study.

Me.....I prefer by a wide margin the original Leatherman
Supertool. You??? Well, good hunting mate.

I have just about one of everything. The Schrade Tool just lays around. I use the Gerber Legend and Letherman Wave the most. But they suit some special needs I have for big game fishing (diamond file, carbide cutters, scissors, etc.) The Tough Tool IMHO is rather chintzy, but would be great if you do alot of woodworking (which I don't). Try and find the tool that meets your specific needs, there certainly are enough available. I'm partial to leathermans and Gerbers. I think you can still custom build a Gerber Tool for your specific needs on their web site.

As a US Marine in a mechanized infantry unit the "leatherman" type tool is almost a must have. I replaced my lost leatherman with the schrade, and while it does the job, overall I am not impressed. I guess you could say I am satisfied, but when it comes time to replace it I will probsbly go back to leatherman.

My second choice is leatherman, and last is schrade. The only thing I like about it is that the 4 "most used" tools lock into place.

the only problem I have with leatherman is the grip can get uncomfortable when using the pliers due to the tool placement on the grip.

This isn't a problem for me with the Wave. Check it out.

I have used the Schrade, it does have some nice aspects like the side opening tools. However the steel is soft and rusts rather easily. I gave it to a friend and after a year of use there was visible rust in many places and many of the tools were significantly damaged, he was not impressed. I currently use a Leatherman Supertool, but it has problems as well; tool clumping, awkward lock, and very poor handle ergonomics under a heavy grip.
