ATS-34, interesting upswest clip point, G-10, linerlock with teflon bushings. Smokey Mountain has 'em for $25. They go for twice that much on the net. here's a link to Kershaw site to see it. http://www.kershawknives.com/kaihtech.htm

The only name they have for it is "G10 ATS-34". Anyone have one of these, or know if it's worth it ?

I'm pretty sure there's a name for it other than ATS-34 G-10, but I can't think of it right now.

For 25 bucks it's probably a pretty good deal, I never had one myself though. I'm not sure if I like the looks of that locking liner release though. It looks like a large portion of it is exposed, might lead to an impromptu meeting of your fingers and those nasty serrations.....

Even at 25 dollars, I'd want to be reasonably certain of it's safety, especially if you plan to work it hard. Quality wise, though, Kershaw does make a pretty nice product. I'd say skip it and see if they (SMKW) have any Spyderco Rookies or Standards left in G-10. Also very good buys.

Actually I think the name is ATS 34,
but anyway it is a great deal, Do you think you could get me one with the titanium handle.

The Model 1415 is called the Starkey Ridge. The ones I have handled have all had excellent lockup. 25.00 is a great price. I have seen retail listed at 100.00 +.

The Model 1415 retails at $99.95 and weighs exactly three oz. at 4" closed with a 2.875" ATS-34 blade at Rc 59-61.

BTW: I ordered one too

I have the 1410 and I am very happy with that one. It locks very well, only the clip is a little too high for some people. The ATS 34 is the best from my ATS34 knives and the edge-holding is excellent. For 25 USD I would get more than one.

Do they sell the Titanium version as well and are they on the net??

I was wondering that too, is there a titanium version of this, and what is the number for this company, or website for it,
I want to get some also

David, you mention the clip. Where is it - pivot or butt, and how much handle is exposed ?

Clip, we think alike. Got my G10 Rookie about a month ago. Sweet !

Mickey, I'm not real sure why you want ME to buy YOU a knife, or why you've never heard of SMKW, being as you are from Tenn. Be that as it may, here's the site: http://www.smokymountainknife.com/

A word of advice, the site is poorly done. Better to just call the 800 number listed and get on the mailing list. They send out flyers every 3-4 weeks

I have handled a few of these and I would pass on it. They have very weak detents, which is bad because they are tip up carry. So far I have not been impressed with Kershaw stuff.

Oh, I have heard of Smoker Mountain Knife Works, but I never thought they had a site, nd it is kind of far aweay from me, anyway Thank You so much for the link......

Yes it is tip up carry and the handle is about 1.5 cm exposed. But on mine the detent is secure, I never experienced any problems. I carry it im my right front pocket or on my belt (knife under the belt with clip outside).

It is nice little knife but right now I am into Speed safe knives (Ken Onion designs)...

PS: BTW I cannot find it on their web site

BFC had some for sale last year, I believe they had 1415 XXL version, now discontinued. It has 4" blade, and around 5" handle length.

It's one hefty knife. The detent is strong enough. Has G10 handles, dual stainless liners that looks like titanium, but isn't.

Pretty damn solid knife.

It's one knife that can be considered a sleeper, IMHO.

Actually, I'd label the 1415 "the ultimate sleeper of all time". Meaning, of course, that not everybody's dying to have one and they're and excellant value for $25. Heck, if some people just heard the price, and not the product brand or discription, they wouldn't give it a second thought!

Funny though, I found a place where the 1415 certainly isn't a sleeper in the dealer's eyes, at my local knife shop where the knife goes for $110

!!!!!

By the way, I played with it and admired it and almost fooled the dealer into thinking I was going to buy it. If only he knew I was lmao on the inside thinking of what a good deal I got for $25

Oh, and I hate this thread because now I wish I'd bought 4 or 5 of those little
"sleepers".

WooHoo!!! Mine came today and I am definitely impressed, especially for the price.

Excellant fit and finish, a very tight dead-center lockup and a detent that certainly isn't weak

.

I'll have to refrain from using it for a couple of weeks though, as I'm planning on testing it against another knife which is on backorder

. And I want to start the review with both knives in NIB condition.

I have had one from a little while. Definately a nice knife. Especially for $25. I never really looked at Kershaw before....I will now.
