I was in brookstones yesterday. they have quite the selection on yuppie survival gadgets.

The one I was most tempted by was a battery charger that you plug into your cigarette lighter for $40. I was just gonna purchase it when my wife read the small print which stated for "low" batteries. That was so ambiguous that I could not trust it. does anyone have any experience with this product? if it works it would be an excellent survival gadget for the car.

I remember a similar product being advertised on television several years ago. The ads gave the impression that it could be used to charge dead batteries when stranded but-as your wife noticed-it is only useful on low batteries.

It also took several hours for the gadget to charge a low battery. It's basically something that is used at home on a car overnight so the battery will be charged the next day. It would be of little use as survival gear if your battery dies when you are in the middle of nowhere.

I agree w/ Jebediah....thats what I have in my truck.....2 batteries and a switch to go from one to the other under the hood, I have a ford F-150 and there is plenty of room under the hood for this, most full size trucks should be able to carry another battery, I dont know alot about electrical systems so I had my mechanic help me hook it up
