I got some money for a birthday gift and I am considering picking one up. I am looking at the basic, kasumi, and tsuchi. For the handle I want to go with the African ebony wood. I plan to add it to my edc rotation.

Thanks

Get one, they are awesome. Great quality, super sharp out of box, just dont expect it to cut like damascus... Its basically vg 10(great steel) with a cool design which is still pretty sweet

Outstanding knives. Mcusta's have a fit and finish that is second to none in the production knife industry.

What do u mean by cut like damascus? I have very limited experience with the material. I have one fixed blade made out of it but its more for show. After reading more last night I found out the blade just has two layers of damascus on each side. I wonder how durable the finish is and how it would look after sharpening. One last question is a real damascus blade like the one a mnandi good for edc?

Thanks

These are very usable knives (I have the "Take" model), and they cut well.
Mcustas approach to damascus is having a high quality vg10 core, and several other thin layers around it that are ground away. While the layered principle is similar, it is not the classic damascus that requires multiple folds and then etching to bring out the pattern.
Does it matter? Hardly in my opinion. The Mcusta blade looks good and cuts well, while traditional damascus is not stainless (imagine cutting a lemon and that then the blade pattern turns black!), stainless damascus uses a modern production technique which, it could be argued, is just as untraditional as Mcusta's.

In short, if you like the look of Mcusta, you will be pleased. Nicely made, well performing, and beautiful products.
