These are very usable knives (I have the "Take" model), and they cut well.
Mcustas approach to damascus is having a high quality vg10 core, and several other thin layers around it that are ground away. While the layered principle is similar, it is not the classic damascus that requires multiple folds and then etching to bring out the pattern.
Does it matter? Hardly in my opinion. The Mcusta blade looks good and cuts well, while traditional damascus is not stainless (imagine cutting a lemon and that then the blade pattern turns black!), stainless damascus uses a modern production technique which, it could be argued, is just as untraditional as Mcusta's.
In short, if you like the look of Mcusta, you will be pleased. Nicely made, well performing, and beautiful products.
