Opinions on ASH1s

Just got a .22" Ash1. I labored over this decision for a bit between it, the Skinny Ash and the .32" CG. I REALLY like the feel of the .22 but with the full flat grind it feels a little more flimsy for lack of a better word, thinner tip thickness. Should I try a .32" cg to see if I like it better? Any opinions between the three? All are full flat grinds correct? Anybody have any compairson pics that shows a spine shot of all three together? I typically take a smaller knife for carving and fine cutting along with me camping so I'm wondering if I should have a .32 vs the .22 for a more heavy use knife (chopping, batoning, etc?) Thanks for any input.
S

Adding to this, here are some pictures of the ASH .22 blade and my Boss Jack Proto. You can see the tip difference. I've heard from people that the Skinny Ash is convex blade as opposed to flat grind. Could this mean the
.19" thick convex blade is a little beafier than the flat grind .22"? Thanks for all the input guys. I can't believe I waited this long to get an ASH, they are awesome. Now I feel like i need all three......

The CG ASH is the most bomb proof knife i've ever owned, and truly my only regret selling it.

I will buy one again, but be warned, the knife is ridiculous. It's as thick as it is long, and HEAVY. For its blade length it actually chops great.

I have a CG ASH-1 and it is the ONE I will keep long after it's out of the safe :)

I have an ASH-1. It is a stout blade. If stout is what you're looking for, the ASH-1 CG would probably fit the bill.

The CG ASH-1 that I have is a decent all-around user. It is not excellent at any one thing but it can cut, baton, slice, pry, scrape, split, shave or hammer. It will do everything except for fail. If you need to bust open a car door then slice a tomato (I don't know why you would ever need to do that) this is the knife for you. Yes, it is heavy for its length, but it will probably outlast any production blade the same range. What it lacks in finesse, it makes up in reliability.

It's the one knife that you can call "a sharpened pry-bar" to its face and it will smile back at you with dirt in its teeth and say, "Thank you."

Had the CG, its a beast. I think its a very good option for someone who doesn't want to carry around a long blade and wants to chop.

It's a great design. I don't regret trading it away, as it got me a knife I love, but I do miss it.

I'd go for the CG, you can't go wrong with that much INFI.

All ASH models are flat ground EXCEPT the Skinny ASH, which has a convex main grind.

CGASH1 all the way. I use mine every day for anything knife related - preparing dinner, chopping bones for the dog, splitting hardwood and 'tidying' up the garden. An AWESOME all rounder. You will never break this knife.

Thats some really cool artwork Rob, We need some T's like that. And the CG-Ash is sweet too. Thanks,:thumbup:

I owned two (both CG), traded one.
I've never used the remaining one, but I love it anyway. It's massive, and like others have said it may well be the toughest Busse knife.
I'd like a thinner one, it would be more practical, maybe 4-5 milimeter or so? I'd use that for sure.
But I bought the CG BECAUSE they are so thick. They're just totally cool!!

It's a beast, pound for pound it's a winner if you need a knife that is a balance of indestructible and good all rounder then this is it.

I love the FFBM but sometimes it's just too big or heavy and then the CG ASH1 is your friend.

Bwahahaha!

Skinny ASH-1 ... flimsy? Hahaha!

I've got both, and the CG ASH-1 is definitely an indestructible hunk of steel, suitable for chopping down buildings. I love mine, but it sure is thick and heavy ... way beyond normal "knife" proportions.

The Skinny is no slouch, though! I took mine on a month long camping trip and put it through some pretty intense abuse batoning through logs for firewood, etc. I cannot imagine anything I might reasonably have tried to do with it wherein it would have failed before my arms or hands did.

OK, we need a dissenting opinion. I picked up the ASH-1 SE at Blade 2007, and promptly sold it. Didn't like the 'feel', and felt that the in-between size was not terribly useful. When I handled the FAT CG version, I hated that.

Here's my opinion:

The name "Skinny ASH" is deceiving. Its more stout than most knives you'll pick up. Its not dainty or frail at all. Its just skinnier than its brothers the .23 and the .32. People hear "skinny" ASH and they're afraid they're going to under purchase the amount of knife they feel they need. Bull Shizen!! I say. I think anything fatter is just useless considering you can do everything just as well with the skinny... and god forbid you break it, Busse sends you another one.

I borrowed a FAtty .32 and as soon as I held it, all desires for a "bomb proof" knife went away. Its just too fat. I was realistic with myself and realized I'd never need to dig through block walls, or pry a tank off my leg. IMO it really is too stout.

I think most people are more impressed with the magnitude of its dimensions more so than its actual practicality...

Personally I'd get a Skinny. It does everything you'd actually want it to do, really well. Leave the chopping to knives more proportionally sized to chop.

My only ASH left is my HOG one. Obviously I'm not selling that one. LOL But I prefer the thin to thick. The thick is just TOO heavy. Sold off my thinnies because of too much overlap. (SHSHII, BBSHSH, HHFSH, etc.,) They are sweet blades for sure, tho.

I pulled them out yesterday to look at and now I have a big bald spot on my right leg!!!!!!!!! Both are super Razor sharp and big hunk of steel, I love the CG ASH-1's.

I'll join the minority here. I like the skinny one better (if you find one with a fairly stout tip).

After handling the CG, it's easy to decide that the thin ones feel flimsy, but remember people, we're talking about INFI. Any knife can be strong if it's half an inch thick. Where INFI outclasses its competitors is in the thinner (0.187-0.25") blades. This steel can take what you can dish out!

My opinions and thoughts EXACTLY.

I owned both and kept the Skinny - I found that the CG was just too heavy to keep on my belt and really never got used as a result...

Here is a spine pic of the two for you:

I love the cg ASH-1 with a well convexed edge! An instant classic for sure. While the skinny might be more practical, the thickness of the combat grade is the epitome of Busse knives (IMHO). Thick, comfy, small enough to prepare game, large enough to chop! I was lucky enough to pick up my first from an "old" hog, sold it...instantly regretted it and bought another! Get one; you won't be disappointed.

I just like the Tank Buster better--feels better in my hand.

The ASH-1 CG is more BRICK like than Knife like.

But Danny (my patient ) LOVES his...

Let us know what one you get
