Has anyone used Bahco hatchets or axes? I took a look at some of their hatchets at Sportsman's Warehouse last week. They appeared good enough; some of the handle grains were better than others, so I'd have to be picky if I went with their wood handled ones.

I've seen Bahco items on ebay before. Generally a knife and folding saw package - I'm pretty sure the knife is a Mora, so maybe they have a connection with them. Bahco stuff is usually listed as Sandvik, so maybe I should check with Ragnar...

I'm particularly interested in their camping axe (polymer/fiberglass handle), but I can't find one for sale here in the states. They look more like a hawk, really. If anyone knows where I can maybe lay my hands on one to try out, I'd appreciate any leads.

Thanks, but the Bahco store link labeled "hatchets" goes nowhere, and the great pruning products link is where I found it the first time; goes to Cape Agricultural products. It is based in South Africa. Appreciate it though.

I contacted the J.H. WILLIAMS TOOL GROUP here in the US since they appear to be the only distributer of Bahco here. They can't get the European products. I went ahead and emailed the ag store in South Africa...this could get interesting.

Well, after several emails, they cannot be had in the US. When I email foreign distributors they refuse to ship to the US or cannot, and the US distributorship (actually SnapOn) cannot get them. The lady said she would send it up the chain after I said campers and hikers might be interested in them here in the US and she said they area a company that actually listens. We shall see.

Bahco do make good axes....although I do suspect they are actually now made by other european manufactures, such as Helko.

Here's a review of a Bahco branded axe, you may or may not have already seen http://www.oldjimbo.com/Outdoors-Magazine/Bahco-Kochanski-bush-axe.pdf

I could happily help you out with your predicament in sourcing this hatchet, but cost of postage would double the price of the axe to £50/$80. I think for that price you could score a decent hatchet or hawk in the US though.

It was a pretty respected brand in Italy when I was there 2008-11.
