Whats the general consensus on benchmade s90v? Seem to be heat treated correctly?have the upgraded hidden canyon that will go into the rotation after my kydex sheath arrives.

It would be nice to know the Rockwell of ones blade. They give a big range for S90V. 58 is pretty poor. Whereas 61 is pretty good. Of course I can test it once I have it. Although if I lost the "lottery" I am just pretty disappointment then. Although, at this point I think they have gotten production to where they are mostly 61. Benchmade's S90V has been out a long time. I will say without going into great detail for EDC I prefer S90V to S110V and S125V. It is overall the best balance of all properties. It's edge retention is plenty good. Plus with anything Diamond it is not incredibly difficult to sharpen. Benchmade S90V tends to be heat treated very well. Especially if you get a 61 hardness. They have been making so much for so long they have gotten very good at it. They are good knives.

Serious question. What is the problem s90v is solving for those purchasing it? I get it from a collectors or just interest in different steels. However, from a practical, daily usage standpoint, what is the main issue it’s solving over s30?

This is a questioned that can be asked of a lot of knives, and a number of steels.

Marketing is a powerful force.

I'm not sure I could tell the difference between Rockwell 58 and 61. I have several Benchmades in D2 and S30V and have found that they take a finer edge than my other knives in the same steels. Haven't tried S90V yet and doubt I will as my Military in S110V is reportedly quite similar steel, but I'd trust Benchmade to do an excellent job of heat treating.

It's fine on my 940-1. Not even that hard to sharpen, just takes longer than any other steel I have to fix it if I do something dumb like hit ceramic with the edge.

Takes a lot finer edge than I thought it would as well. All the steels I have from Benchmade have been great (s30, m4, 20cv, 154cm, and s90v).

I've heard S90V and S110V are both chipy enough times that I steer away from them but I'm sure they're both fine if used normally.
