Opinions on best double edged boot knife.

I got an "elite forces dagger" boot knife by United Cutlery, from Us Calvary for only 12 dollars. It feels solid, egronomic and pointy. It would be formidable if I sharpened it.

Cold Steel has one and it looks pretty good, anyone familiar with that and how it ranks compared to the others?

I carried a Gerber Mark I when I was off duty serving in Northern Ireland. Never in my boot though - inside the waste band. Not as reassuring as a Browning pistol but we were not allowed to sign them out when off duty.
I wouldn't want to be stabbed with one.

I'm yet another fella that's had most of his experience with the Gerber Mark I's. I think they're one hell of a safe bet, as far as double edged knives go. On the smaller end, I've played with the Fallkniven Garm, and thought that one was pretty cool.

I think the SOG Pentagon is pretty neat lookin' too, even though I've never played with one.

Ya' might also want to take a look at some of the latest offerings from TOPS. I haven't looked at them real long and hard personally, but I do know they've recently released a couple of double edged knives.

Oh, and also I tend to recall that Katz makes a VERY nice one...five inch blade as I recall....the Avenger?? Played with one recently and liked it alot, but it's definitely toppin' the scales as far as weight goes.

Hope this helps.

This is going back aways, but I always considered A.G. Russell's designs tops in the field. His Sting and Morseth designs are classic. They should'nt be to hard to find on the secondary market. They're definately on my short "buy" list:).

If blade size doesn't matter, Cold Steel Peacekeepers offer a lot of bang for the buck. I am assuming you are talking about concealable fighting knives and not utility knives that you stick in a boot sheath.

Does anyone have a Camillus Boot Knife? They are pretty cheap and come from a respectable company. How do they rate?

I've got the SOG Mini-pentagon, CS PeaceKeeper I, and the Katz Avenger. The pentagon is a great feeling knife in the hand, but I have a leather sheath with mine and don't like that much. The Peacekeeper is fantastic, except I tried it in the subquenched 420, and I don't like the steel. If it were the Carbon V version, it would be awesome. The sheath is awkward -- I would rather have fancier kydex, or a ballistic nylon. The Katz is one beefy bastard. If you wanted to, you could chop with it. It's real thick, but is ground out to a good edge. The dive sheath has a great release, but is a little "rattly," but I like the cordura sheath quite a bit. just my .02.

Edited to add: I just read the above post, and I also have a "Western" boot knife which is basically the same as the Camillus boot. It's super sharp and comes to a helluva point. It's a little thinner than some, but would do the job. I bought mine a long time ago, and it came with a very shoddy leather "boot knife" sheath. Hopefully times have changed.

I know from the catalog that the camillus boot has an optional Kydex sheath now. Can't say anything about the quality though.

I had a Pentagon many years ago. I always liked the fact that there was one fully serrated edge and one fully plain edge.

I've had a Western dagger (boot knife) for years. Quite sharp out of the box, but I was able to Lansky an absolute SCARY edge onto it while preserving the point. Don't know how well it actually holds the edge as I've never used it for anything. As I recall it was very affordable. I don't carry it due to the whole legal hassle regarding double edges, etc. Welcome to Amerika. :grumpy:

The Gerber Guardian Back-Up is a decent boot dagger IMO. The clip on the (admittedly quite bulky) plastic sheath is reversible. I have to add that it the tip section of the dagger tends to rattle in its sheath a bit though, but it's securely held in the sheath if the adjustable sheath retention isn't set too loosely.

The Fällkniven G1 Garm Fighter is kinda like a "high-end" version of the Gerber - you will probably have to get a custom aftermarket sheath because AFAIK it's only available with a Kydex neck sheath.

The above-mentioned CS Peacekeeper is a very good choice if you want a larger dagger.

bought it maybe 15 years ago, never used it for much. Still in mint condition. Sharp as all get out. I have no doubt it would spilt flesh. The sheath is great. STRONG clip and no strap. It's held in place by a tensioned piece of steel. It wont fall out if you shake it, but a good pull frees it. Cool design.

I bought mine about 17 years ago. They're no longer in production, but are a sweet knife if you can find one. 3.5" of double edged sweetness. I've quit carrying mine as double edged blades are a real no-no in Ca. but it is sweet, sharp and real concealable. I could wear it in waist band in the small of back while wearing light shorts and a t shirt and no one would ever know. Great knife.

I carried a Gerber Guardian for years overseas even under light clothing. I never had any problems with it. The Gerber Mark I is a good choice also. You run less of a risk of cutting yourself with the guard on it as opposed to the Guardian. But my favorite was the AG Russell Sting. Wish I could find another one, IMO the best boot knife ever!:)
