If you own one of the Blackjack fixed blade knives made from A2 how do you like it? Has it performed well or lived up to your expectations? How well do they hold an edge and with it being A2 is it any worse to resharpen than other tool steels? I have some experience with D2 but don't remember working with any A2, machine shop experience in the past.

Blackjack should be equal to bark river, same owner. A2 is excellent steel, edge holding like D2 with better toughness and much easier to sharpen.

I didn't know that Blackjack and Bark river were both owned by the same people. I have seen some of the bark river knives and know they are well made, thanks for the info.

I have found that it performs fine, it will rust like plenty of other tools steels, but much better corrosion resistance than 1095, easy for me to sharpen, but I never had to do any major work on it.
A personal favorite of mine, my trusty 125

Bark River Knives and Blackjack Knives are not owned by the same person. Mike Stewart owns Bark River, while Ken Warner owns Blackjack. Bark River does however produce the classic series (USA made blades) for Blackjack.

Avoid the Chinese Blackjacks and you can do no wrong.
Not true, the Grunt is damn near indestructible. Watch the destruction test of it, and factor in the price of just over $20. Dollar for dollar, I would call it one of the strongest knives out there.

I couldn't agree more. I have one, and that thing is a brute. Price to brutishness ratio can't be beat. And its nicely convexed to boot.

Is that true? It was the case that Bark River was making knives for BlackJack. Has Bark River bought BlackJack recently?

<<sorry, MountainMike already answered this>>

I would carry one everywhere, but the belt loop is way too low for me to carry it. Jabs me in my side all the time, and I can't really afford a custom sheath.

The Grunt? The sheath is horrible. But, what do want for 20 bucks, I suppose. It is one heck of a knife.

Could be wrong but I don't think that Ken owns BJ anymore ...... Smokey Mnt. does.

They are all good knives IMO.

The 125 is a killer tool.

Mike Stewart founded Blackjack knives (mid-1980's) specifically to import Chris Reeves Knives before introducing their own lines of Japanese-made blades. Mike later sold it and it has changed hands more than once. Nowadays, BRKT is the manufacturer for Blackjack Knives.

Blackjack was owned by Stewart, then it was sold to Warner, who then sold it to Blue Ridge Knives.

Mike Stewart made/makes all the high end Blackjacks for Warner, and now Blue Ridge Knives.
