Opinions on BM941?

Hi all,

I'm currently carrying an Emerson SOCFK as my EDC. I love the knife, but everything about it is big and beefy, which makes it somewhat difficult to conceal while wearing dress pants, slacks, etc.

So I'm on a mission to find a slimmer, lighter, sleeker knife to carry as an alternative to the SOCFK. Primary use will be self defense, and I like to carry in my waistband, so slimness is important.

From reading all the posts people seem to really like the BM941. I'd like to know if it fits the bill for a sleek EDC knife. Also, is it tip up?

Thanks for the info.

Brilliant knife, not only gorgeous to look at but a joy to use.
The 940 I have is far and away the smoothest opening knife I've ever handled, it packs a lot into a small, easy to use package. someone said it before, its a work of sculptural art...I couldnt agree more. And yes its tip up.

I just got a 943 last week and I really like it. Smooth action, very comfortable, great Axis lock, slim in the pocket. And it came REALLY sharp. No touch-up necessary.

My only complaint would be the black coating on the Aluminum body: it reminds me of the blackboards in school. The metal ones that you could scratch your fingernails on and get that wonderful blackboard screech. I'm sure that I'll get used to it. It is a high-friction coating---just what you want on the blade of a sharp-pointed thingy.

You will never regret it! I still can't believe I am carrying it around everywhere. I thought I would want a smaller EDC, but my 941 is simply the best EDC I've had in my pocket.

Thanks for the super fast replies everyone. I think I'm going to order one Monday from newgraham. Everyone seems to have great experiences with them. Plus they have the lowest price I could find.

This board is great by the way. Thanks again.

The 942 I recently received is BEAUTIFUL. I didn't buy it to carry (I bought a Kershaw Scallion for that). There's no way I'll be able to carry the 942 until I get another beautiful Benchmade axis lock knife (maybe even another 94*). Even then, I don't know how I could bear to use such an awesome (and, by my standards, expensive) knife. Someday I'll probably designate it for EDC. I love the axis lock. It's probably not legal for me to carry in its current form as I can easily flick it open without touching the thumb studs.

I'd have to say if you're willing to carry a knife that's that expensive, I've not yet seen a knife I'd rather use as an EDC. It's everything you said - slim, light, sleek ... you wont regret it.

If you got the money spring for the 941D2CF, I just got mine last week and it is the best looking knife in my collection. It opens so smooth and the AXIS lock is very strong. Whichever one you choose you are getting Benchmade's outstanding quality.

Well, I decided after spending $150.00 on a knife (my Emerson) that if I was afraid to carry it, then I should just sell it to someone who would.

Besides, Emerson and Benchmade both design knives to be used, so I'm not afraid of breaking either. If they don't look brand new after a while, then I'll just have to buy another one:)

I guess I subscribe to the theory that it's better to always have my knive and never need it, than to not have it really need it.

is onestopknifeshop.com any good? i saw their prices and they were cheaper than newgraham...anyone had any bad experience with 'em?

It is a good site with fast shipping. They are the site that runs this forum, so anything you buy from them helps the forum out. They do, however, have some things that cost quite a bit more than other knife sites, so don't assume that because one knife is cheaper than NewGraham, every knife must be cheaper. Check out prices such as the BM 921. 1sks is a bit high on this knife for me to consider buying it from them. Then again, they might offer a price match service, and if so, this would definitely be a great site to buy from.

I carry a BM940BT everyday in my left pocket, and have taken to using it more than any other knife. You wont be dissappointed.

The 941 is small, lightweight, unobtrusive, and high-quality. Osborne's version of the clip point is ideal for target penetration in the horrifying event that you'd have to use a folder for the ungentlemanly task of staying alive.

The 921's handle and blade are even more suited for piercing and retaining the knife when withdrawng, but the handle's coating is smoother, which may undermine your confidence in its use at critical moments. Oh yeah, and there's the higher price tag and the highly conspicuous pocket clip, too. But it is slimmer and can be gripped tighter.

i'm scouting around for a good website from the US...and maybe get someone to bring it back to Malaysia for me...

In the UK the knives cost a bomb...especially the US made ones...at current conversion rates i'm buying my bm721 for $229.56...

Even if i did order from the US and have it delivered to UK then they'll charge me tax...damn it...so the only way to get it cheap and avoid tax is have someone bring it over for me...hehe...will just have to wait for some unfortunate cousin of mine...hehehe

Thanks for the continued input. I'll post a comparison with the SOCFK when the 941 gets here.

As for 1sks, they are excellent as well. However, their prices are not as low on many items. Surefire lights, for example, can be found much cheaper here:

http://www.arizonagunrunners.com

plus you get a 3% discount if you order over $100.00. I've ordered from them in the past and have been highly satisfied.

The prices on Benchmade knives were almost always cheaper at New Graham. On the 1sks web page, they offer to price match on some models (AFCK) so you can get certain things for the same price if you call.

Don't know anything about international though.
