I'd like opinions on this Boker:

And also please on Buck stockman model 301.I have one Buck knife and although Chinese made it certainly is well made ,better than my Camillus Rough Cut trapper .I have no experience of Boker so ,please some guidance would be helpful.
Thanks-my first post BTW

You'll be happy with the Boker. Nice fit and finish....carbon steel blades that come pretty sharp out of the box. I have about a dozen Boker knives and am happy with all of them. Can't speak much about the Buck but someone will chime in.

There is a forum here for Boker knives

There is also a Buck forum here

The Camillus Rough Cut is not a pretty knife like some of the Chinese knives, but will be around working for you in 10 or 20 years.

The Buck 301 is a real worker with black delrin handles, well made and the standard Buck steel, all over better quality than the Rough Cut.

The Boker is carbon with bone handles, much nicer, as described by morrowj_98.

Hard use? The Buck
General use, nice to have in your pocket? The Boker.

I've had nothing but good experiances from buck, several bad from boker, but they do make some nice knives.

I've got several Boker knives, my first experiences with their slipjoints were horrible. I bought a scout knife and a copperlock made from some mistery stainless and they both proved to be useless. Fit and finnish was great, but they couldn't cut no matter how much I sharpened them.

On a recent trip I bought a Boker stockman with 440c blades and I was surprised by its sharpness out of the box. Great fit and finnish, just right spring strength and gorgeous stag. Plus, the sheepfoot blade doesn't stick out as much as it does on my Case stockmans (stockmen?).

I got a couple of Chinesse Bucks as gifts (a stockman and a trapper), until I saw the "China" tang stamp I could have sworn they were US made. Very nice knives. I'm not a fan of buying from China for my own personal reasons, but I can't deny these knives are well made.

I've had three Bokers, all very nice. Two in carbon, one in stainless. I still have the single blade trapper. The other two were nice, but I guess I'm just not a stockman/ barlow guy. I haven't had any problems with their stainless. I like the carbon better but the ss is okay. I keep looking at their folding hunters. One of these days...

That's my only beef with Boker's. I find I have to hone the blade edge really thin before they get as sharp as I like, and that's with carbon blades! The only exception to this was a whittler, that came with razor sharp blades.
That's my experience...but I know many others haven't had these problems.

Buck 301 is a good working knife. Nothing fancy. Just a good knife at a nice pricepoint. I would like to find one with stag or bone handles at some point. Some of these bastids around here keep outbidding me on eBay though. :p

gotta go with the buck, no question. my luck with boker has been kind of hit or miss. when you get a good one it's great. also buck customer support is really good.

That link you forwarded doesn't give much info about that knife, no wonder you ask!

My experience with Chinese Bökers (Magnums) good fit and finish good value.

Böker fixed blade from Argentina -Arbolitto, good sharp 440, nice stag handles and an EXCELLENT sheath that many costlier maker could learn from.

Böker German Solingen carbon steel slip joints- Barlow and Copperhead. Very good finish indeed, nice appearance and action (the Copperhead Grand Canyon Bone is beautiful) Their carbon doesn't acquire patina as quickly as CASE'S CV though but sharpens with ease. Well worth the cost, around 30 dollars /21 Euro or 15 quid plus post in your money.

A Böker Walker 1 hand opener gent's folder I have was a costly mistake. Poor lock and rough finish, not quality German product.

As for BUCK. Well I've had problems with 3 US made knives but in fairness to the company they fixed these faults quickly and efficiently and I live in the EU not US.

Let us know what you get and look into the Traditional Forum sometime, lot of interesting posts there for sure!
